Battlefield: Bad Company (PS3 & Xbox 360)

@Joshua
What happened to Frontlines: Fuel of War? I thought you were looking forward to that one too. Did that game turn out to be crap? (Weren't you a beta tester?)

On topic:
I will build a new PC for Battlefield 3. I freakin LOVE that franchise!

BF3 must prove to me it's not a buggy mess. BF2 and the others before it would have been fun if it wasn't for the constant weird bugs you'd experience. Things they'd claim to fix but were not, etc. It's just really annoying to play a game where you're constantly fighting the enemy and the bugs.

Yes they better give out a fairly stable build and not a BF2 like build. Cant believe the game got released with the ugly 'touch still standing vechicle and die' bug....

Battlefield multiplayer beta demo slots available (360 only)

I've downloaded the demo which is 1.07 GB. You cant do anything yet except tool around in menus, servers go live March 25. There is a opening montage of decent looking footage.

Apparantly the IGN/Gamespy public keys are free as well. I am an insider so that didn't apply to me. JUst be sure to say you've played prior BF games and whatnot.

Again no beta on PS3. If they can release this game without server problems on day 1, then they will be the first ones to do it. But given the current track record thats unlikely to happen. So it makes me very sad to see them neglect the PS3 this way.

This game has always suffered sever tearing though. It might be a little better now than previous videos. Hope they can get that cleaned up by release.

I've read that the game is console only.

God, I can't wait to get some dog tags! It's been too long since I've had some Battlefield goodness.

It seems that Dice have learned from CoD 4 mistakes. You need to hit your opponents more often to kill them. The great thing about this is that if can be killed with only a few shots then even a little lag is going to through the game in someone's favour. Now you still have a chance to fight back. The upgrade's you receive for getting higher ranks aren't more powerful than the ones you already have. So your never going to be playing against opponents who have a huge advantage over you, or worse play against opponents who are setup to lose.

Its out. You can already find some gameplay movies on youtube. 1 thing I have noticed from them is that you cant seem to blow up doors windows with the granadelaucher. There will be a hole in the wall next to it, but not in the doors or windows. You can still use bullets to shoot through a door.

Maybe the owners bought super-duper reinforced doors and windows to protect from "home invasion"?

I'm looking forward to this one, but I have a feeling it's going to be a grenade/rocket spam-fest, which might get annoying.

Impressions?

This beta is perhaps the least fun I've ever had playing a Battlefield game. Ground vehicles are very hard to control, armor is useless, aircraft and artillery dominate (which is a common trait for BF games).

Perhaps the worst aspect is that the on foot combat is just horrible imo. The weapons are inaccurate unless you're crouched and zoomed, the controls are awkward and sluggish, and the classes don't seem to be balanced very well. Sometimes it feels like they are trying to emulate COD4, but COD4 is like 100x better.

The new Gold Rush game mode is just the same old "capture to point" game, only not as much fun as the previous incarnations. While you can knock over trees, it seems only certain areas of buildings can be destroyed. Not as awesome as the videos would have you believe. The graphics are nice, but there is aliasing, screen tearing, and lots of lag. And they've gone overboard with the smoke effects. While they look cool at first, every time you fire a large gun, the resulting smoke totally obscures your view so that whatever you shot at is gone or has killed you before you can see again. Ultimately, it just detracts from the gameplay imo.

Overall however, this game just isn't fun. It's got all of the elements of a BF game, and every time I fire up the beta I go in with great anticipation that it will be fun, but every time I end up quitting out of frustration. I don't even want to play it anymore, but I feel obligated to because it's a closed beta.

Very disappointed. Frontlines is a much more fun game.

This is weak. Anytime the guns in a fighting game are the weakest point of the game, you're in trouble. If you want to play BF2, do it on a PC.

CoD4 will just laugh at this "competition."

Downloaded, and played in easy. Cutscenes weren't bad in characters, design, lighting etc. Resolution in game is low though (PS3) and jaggies vicious. The DOF blur is rough and turns the jaggies into shimmery caterpillars. The scenery is quite bland looking with repetitive textures, but the destructibility is noteworthy. Atmosphere dial is set to 'realism'. It's not hard to imagine this as a real-life encounter. Gameplay was kinda confusing for a chump like me, used to artificial shooters. "Get the Rocket Launcher" - What rocket launcher?!

No idea how this compares to the likes of COD4, this being the only 'realistic, contemporary' shooter I've played.
