Tomb Raider exclusivity fallout thread *spawn

The fact that they're not publishing it, and that Spencer said their deal has a duration, tells me it's still a timed exclusive and will eventually come to PS4.

They should also ask Microsoft when are their next layoffs and who will they be firing, which companies do they plan on purchasing in the next 10 years, can they detail all the new ip's they plan to bring out for the next 5 years, can they discuss their financials in detail along with how they hide their money from the irs, when will the next 3 price drops on the Xbox One happen, etc, and they when Microsoft doesn't answer they should be Outraged! (tm) and devote the next 5 weeks on their websites to headlines like:

"Microsoft refuses to talk price cuts, will they be cancelling the Xbox One?"

"Microsoft has no new ip's, are they going to be exiting the gaming business?"

"Microsoft playing cagey on finances, is the company going broke?"

"Microsoft not talking staffing, thousands of layoffs imminent!"

That should generate a good amount of hits.

Similar to Dead Rising can mean anything, MS published Dead Rising 3, not true for TR.

Dead rising and Ryse and the the other games on Xbox One have a common precedent. Publishing can only mean one thing if they're bringing publishing the game into it. I can understand not being clear in your wording, but this obfuscation is more than a little tiring.

What that says to me is PC incoming in a year or two, PS3 and PS4 never.

If your gonna say otherwise, back up your words, SE sure isn't talking about anything

I can talk about Tomb Raider coming to Xbox in 2015 exclusively, right - that’s the deal I have on the game, but I don’t own the IP.”

The mere fact that he is dancing around and using "2015" says it all.

that's the year the game comes out. And he keeps saying IP, but that doesn't mean the game is not console exclusive to the platform, unfortunately..

The only thing I infer from what he says is that he can't say it's coming to PS4 because that's their business. For all we know, they may not be actively developing a PS4 version, so saying that it's coming would be promising something that is the developers decision to make. Besides that, it seems abundantly clear that they can eventually choose to release it on PS4 if they want.

Likely. As we discussed on B3D, the key to producing the best possible title is to devote 100% of your effort on it and really have the resources and time to fully exploit and optimize for the hardware.

If MS is paying to market and develop Tomb Raider for Xbox platforms, it is highly unlikely that MS would be funding the PS4 version of it. When MS purchased said exclusivity, I'm fairly sure I've read that Phil indicated that MS would ultimately determine when the game would be shipped.

That being said, if you're determining the deadline, you're not going to let that time go to waste by letting them create the PS4 variant of it in parallel of the Xbox versions of it.

SE/CD themselves have said that they want to take Tomb Raider to become the best that it can be. It's a win-win situation. Xbox gets its' heavily optimized game X1 dedicated game, and SE/CD gets their maxed out game, with ownership of the IP and the ability at a later date to port the game to other platforms.

Once again, as has been written: 2015 holiday games is when we should be seeing the 'first' set of DX12 games drop; coincidentally this lines up with TR.

We've never really confirmed here whether GCN1.0/1.1 means fully DX12 compatible. Maybe DX12 requires GCN1.1+; who knows. We've read from Phil that X1 will have 'full DX12 coming'. We don't know what that means. So we don't know how close PS4 and XB1 hardware features actually are, only that they are at least both GCN1.0. We know raw spec differences, but there's never been a exhaustive list of features both GPUs are capable of.

Whether the game takes advantage of all of the features is another aspect too.

Having said that, porting to PC should be more straightforward with DX12 being released by then (and the accompanying DX12 compliant cards).

But heavily optimized DX12 for X1 porting to GNM/OpenGL for PS4 may not be trivial at all; and we won't know until
a) TR is verified to be DX12
b) DX12 is verified to not really have any incremental feature differences over GCN1.1

At Gamescon Sony took time to explicitly disclose titles that were exclusive and which titles were releasing first on Playstation platforms. Of course that makes it really clear and avoids the controversy, MS could have done the same thing but choose not to. But hey feel free to blame the media for any confusion.

Agreed.

Hey guys isn't it great that Silent hill had a teaser demo on the ps4 but never announced it was coming out on other systems even though it is. Remember all the outrage there what good times that was.

Yes bc teaser trailers are the same thing as suggesting a game is exclusive when its not or arguing if you dont like DRM you must not have an internet connect or if you think resolution matters you were suppose to buy a PC or insisting the media was duplicitous about DRM when neither MS or software partners could accurately describe the policy at E3 bc in many cases they hadn't even been informed...

The only connection in these things is a desire to make outrageous statements, draw false equivalence or argue straw men in an attempt to cover up the mistakes of your preferred platform. Something btw not even MS execs are doing at this point.. And thankfully so, bc we need competition and choice whereas some of you are just out to lunch. .

Releasing a demo on only one platform and mentioning no other platforms is the same as suggesting its exclusive.

But it will always be moving goal posts when people defend their fav companies.

There is no difference between launching exclusively on xbox holiday 2015 and releasing first on ps4.

its the same thing.

We get timed exclusive bad on MS platforms but good on sony . We get exclusive month long dlc bad on ms platforms but year long good on sony.

It makes this forum quite sad to read. Silent hill had a teaser released on only one platform implying that its exclusive and no one is out raged . MS announced a new tomb raider for xbox exclusive holiday 2015 and every brings out pitch forks .

Again Sony took time out of their conference to make a distinction between timed exclusives and truly unique IPs but instead of acknowledging that as a reason why nobody was outraged at Sony we'll just assume the media is biased.

Joker's point about the media is true, they want to sell stories to the public but nobody Sony, MS or Nintendo puts in front of the camera is naive to this. Before they ever went on the air they have practiced their talking points and will make sure to convey whatever message they want to get across in the limited about of time they have.

Tthe TLDR version is if my neighbor looks dumb on TV I'm blaming the media if XYZ corporations comes off bad its their fault they have experience and know better.

I brought up a specific title in which they did not. Silent hill. They even released a teaser demo of it. No mention of other platforms

Both companies do the same shenanigans but this forum only seems to call one company out.

I'm not even sure you believe this, are you really going to suggest Sony was suppose to release a trailer and say coming to XBox this fall? And if not they were lying?

Usually high profile MP titles are shown in trailers at both conferences, unless Sony asked MS for an agenda why would they even think MS would leave the title out?

And while we're at it, pretty much everyone using history as any sort of a guide knew there was a good chance TR would be coming to other platforms bc MS has a history of calling things exclusive which end up being released on other platforms later.

But I guess we're supposed to be outraged bc Sony didn't make a copy of UC for the Xbox right? Bc that's the same thing as buying the exclusivity to a title that has historically been MP or on the competing platform.

It is? Well hell I thought it was a ps4 exclusive. Cool that's good news, hopefully it comes to pc as well then.

*face palm*

Do you have a link where Sony said silent hill would be exclusive to PS4?

Why the hell should Sony use a second of their conference to advertise for other platforms?

What Microsoft did was something completely different, so different that ever gaming site made it a news item, "back to the 90s Tomb Raider is exclusive".

And look what yet another Microsoft pr blunder did, the most discussed game from their conference is TR:RISE, but it's not about the game, it's about the exclusive announcement and then the 180..

There only is one company to call out.
