The GT5 expectation thread (including preview titles)*

well to be fair, GTHD is only demonstrating this with one car on the track at a time. So there really is NO way to compare what would be possible in the other game if they focused all of their energy on that.

and by most accounts there are jaggies in GTHD too so it's not perfect compared to the other game either (which does MB and DOF in game; not just replays).... but the car modeling and lighting is out of this world from what I'm seeing from GTHD.

Like he said though, PGR3 is half the resolution (not even rendered in 720p) so the shimmering and jaggying is much worse I would think than GTHD which is at 1080p. Plus, since it only moves at 30fps, that MB (motion blurring) is a necessity whereas with GTHD, at 60fps, your eyes can blur that stuff for you (though they could most likely do it if they decide to).

Asides from that, this is a free demo of a game that isn't even finished.

yes but displaying only one car is different than rendering a whole field so comparing resolution rendering and whatnot is moot since as you said it is a tech demo not a racing game yet.

and I only countered LB's comparison, I did not bring it up.

Yeah, you just gave another reason why the comparison is useless, which is what i was saying :D

It's not that the GT HD environment looks any worse. The crowds' detail and the realism of the environment easily surpass its 'competitor' (not to mention any names ;) ) and this is far from finished - that's why it might look not as polished, in contrast to the cars, which the devs obviously focused on.

just to clarify
, I was not referring to the environments .... I meant "full field of cars" (8 or more on screen at once with AI instead of just one).

but as has been pointed out... let's drop the comparisons as I think the point is clear. :)

Someone forgot the detail of hte cities of PGR3 :

yep thats ingame biches.

 Is it wrong to be amazed by GTHD's realism ? I have seen the PGR* media in this thread, including supervegeta's. They don't impress me as much (lifeless, and less sexy). Whether it's one car or multiple cars, it's not as if GTHD is still running on a PS2. So we should expect good things to come no ?

If people think that the boxes are close in practice, doesn't that mean some day Xbox 360 will have similar level of racing game ? I can't wait to see the weather effects though (more so than the damage model).

[Ok, 4 more cars to go for me. The later cars are more fun... I can control my drift a little now, just a wee bit]

Calling fellow members "bitches" is only going to be tolerated around here when it's done playfully and affectionately --or possibly the weekly l-b vs Natoma catfight. Which I'm just not getting that sense from you, sadly. Well, at least not the former. I leave it to you if there's anything you wish to share on the latter.

Now who says that can't see the jump in next-gen visuals? I wish I could do this comparision when the "diminishing returns" talk was around.

Do you still dont now what diminishing returns means:?:  allow me to better show it to you.

There is a significant jump in all the gen but the one from PS2 to PS3 is smaller than the one from PS1 to PS2.

Anyway it is fantastic how good looking the game is.

PS: it would be nice a image from todays CG so we can compare all of them.

sorry, was not trying to spoil your fun, just discussing some technical aspects.

enjoy!

No problem at all. I was just amazed by people's reaction to a work-in-progress game engine on a new console. Based on many feedback, we have not seen anything quite like it so far (even in earlier one-car demos/videos).

Technically, very little is known about the game engine. We are also not sure when the game will be released, what the final specs are, and how far the hardware is being pushed in the demo. The demo is also burning cycles running not-so-important flag animation. I don't think any technical discussion about multiple cars and settings in a different game is relevant at this moment (It's jumping the gun !).

I am very happy with the demo. This is the first realistic racing game I play for more than 1 hour (The only racing games I played were Mario Kart and RR on PS2. Back then, I also borrowed PGR for Xbox 1 but was frustrated by the controls, the graphics didn't do a thing to me).

For me personally it is the minimum I expected from Polyphony. However, I have to admit I have been amazed by the number of times I have actually had to double back and take a good look at a partial screenshot to check if it is fake or real. The Honda comparison earlier, at first glance I thought the game looked poor compared to the real life version on top.....then I noticed the aliasing on top.

The number of people who have been fooled by the game is not small, about half of the people (of 26 total) I have showed some of these screens to picked out the wrong picture in the comparison. Photomode...the mind boggles.

The game is certainly pretty, but the GT fantard in me is clamouring for improvements. Environments are the number one priority, well more accurately the trees. I also have a little niggle in the back of my mind whether they really need to go for 1080p. Maybe 720p with motion blur and AA would make in-game like the replays. However I have no idea just how hard this game is pushing it at 1080p so I think it's best left for PD to sort out.

Also can we please have a discussion without the screenshot wars, that's the type of stuff that belongs at GameFAQs.

:) May be you should post your other expectations on their official forum too. So noobs like me can benefit from your input when they incorporate your feedback. Afterall, they changed their business strategy and product definitions after listening to the Internet.

Yes. I love these "Which is real" mini-game, especially the yellow Lotus one. I am still amused how many times I got it wrong (in my mind on first glance), or missed a fake car in a series of photos.

That's right. The best we can do right now is to provide feedback to PD and let them decide. Personally, I don't mind the trees (unless the leaves start to fall ;) ). I would like to see their weather effect more. But like I said, I'm new to this GT thing, so your feedback is probably more in tuned with the current state of affairs.

I have been alternating between the MotorStorm demo and GTHD just for the heck of it. I begin to appreciate their differences now. Will most likely get GT when it's out. It does beckon you to buy a steering wheel doesn't it ?
