But those PC features in Ubi games, like HRTS, VXAO, VXGI, HBAO+, the ray marched fog in Watch Dogs 2 etc. work best and oftentimes supported only on Nvidia hardware, they are not open source. So they'd either have to ditch Nvidia marketing and support (which is probably a good source of income for the PC port) then implement similar features themselves. Which is possible, I'd expect something like that from id for example, but not from Ubi titles (which have a long history of partnership between Nvidia and Ubi). So if i was a betting man I'd expect first parties to take advantage of the hardware, and third parties to simply scale across all platforms depending where each console hits bottlenecks.

If all the consoles are going to continue being AMD, there's no reason for your studio to not develop those features in house eventually; it's a matter of time, not a matter of if. AMD has largely left it to developers (because I don't think they can afford to do this type of thing) to develop these features. Ubisoft will eventually develop these features for AMD, no reason not to, nvidia doesn't own the console market and it's unlikely that nvidia will go into the next playstation or xbox.

Jez Corden is dropping a nit more information:

I was never that bothered by the power brick on my Day 1 console, but as long as they can deal with the heat and keep the console as quiet as the One S then better it be internal than external IMO. I personally don't have anywhere near the bandwidth needed to stream in 4k but for those that do it'll be a nice feature. I could always upload some 4K content to YouTube. I'll set it uploading last thing at night and hope it's done by morning :D

EDIT: Crap, you beat me by seconds to that one @mpg1 :D

so the days of bricks are gone it seems, for Xbox. Whatever the technology, I think Scorpio is going to cost 500€ at most, although I expect it to be sold at 400€, hopefully.
They were pretty rushed for launch of OG XBO. Not sure why they were so behind to begin with. The OS was in tatters still weeks leading up to launch.

Maybe they can just use the Scorpio sign for a logo. ♏

Xbox One M

Maximum AF-fort
Magnum
Metro
Moped

the initial idea of bundling Kinect with every unit had an impact on the price, yet I don't expect another launch like in the X360 which was an incredible machine for what it offered back in 2005, performance wise -a 6 threads CPU, GPU with unified shaders and 512MB of RAM was huge at the time, I felt so proud even compared to the best PC rigs for having a X360-, and I don't think we are ever going to see a launch like that.

This article says the Scorpio will be using something like a 1070::smile2::smile2:

This page says that the console is going to cost around 549$ (549€) and also mention the global power of the machine is going to be 7Teraflops:

Is that including the fact it would be HEVC encoded? What sort of bandwidth is required for a decent 4k60 hevc stream?

4K 60fps for dvr/streaming says Microsoft is attempting to future proof this to some degree...so it's more than just a simple iterative Xbox One...
If the games are going to be able to play in 4k60, then makes sense being able to stream and record as such, unless the fixed function blocks didn't allow for it. Doesn't amd's fixed function encoders already allow for 4k60 hevc? If not I'm surprised.

That's actually not a bad idea, use the symbol in marketing and on the actual box.
Xbox one ♏
where the symbol actually stands for Scorpio, so it's pronounced Xbox one Scorpio.
People would just call it Xbox Scorpio, or scorpio then.

.
Wonder how much system resources will have to be set aside to 4K 60fps recording/streaming ...much more than existing Xbox One/PS4?

It's a blower now ? Huh. Surprised I let that detail slip me
I'm basing this on the old presentation, but that's a fair bet since Phil already confirmed the motherboard they were showing (with 384bit GDDR5) was something they have done on purpose and expected us to make this deduction. The same video was clearly showing a blower fan configuration.

My remaining question is how they designed the air inlets. I trust they didn't just put a grill on top/bottom. It's logical to have intakes on the sides/front. Just like the PS4, it's dictated by the decision to use a blower, needing an ODD in one corner, an internal power supply behind, then there's very little room for creativity.

Netflix wants steady 25 Mbps for 4K streaming but apparently 15 Mbps can do barely. Hulu says 11 Mbps for 4K is minimum. I presonally know that 20 Mbps ADSL wasn't enough for YouTube 4K (terrible buffering pauses). And these are all max p25 or p30 I think, so double that for p60.

You don't really need much at all - I think current Radeon ReLive supports up to 2160p30 recording, and the performance hit is around 2-3 FPS or so on RX 480.
Encoding and decoding is after all done on dedicated parts of the GPU

thanks, that's also talking download speed, where as if your streaming it's upload.
as long as they give a couple quality sliders, for res, bitrate etc, then should be nice for streamers and people who want to record gameplay.

yeah...I can't imagine the average upload speed right now is enough for 4K 60fps
