Both launched in the us for 299 dollars.

And in Japan it was the equivilant to us $400 for both but both hit Japan almost a year ahead of time. I also remember Sony almost had a lawsuit against them for "dumping" in the US because their price was so much cheaper than in Japan and they were taking a loss per unit. I don't remember who it was or how it ended up though...
