Yes, I did and I mentioned that I am reposting here as I wanted reactions on it. What the gamers feel about it?

Oh? Like no one used the SPUs on the PS3?

Yup good point, but the way it happened, it was only in exclusives that the hardware shined, didn't it? Did we see any performance upgrades in any multiplats? Thats exactly what I got from devs.

But did any of that affect sales? Those games still did pretty well on PS3, and the Xbox 360 didn't really suffer for being Xbox 1.5. Most believe PS3 is far stronger even if it isn't.

Yes, it didn't, I don't care about the sales, MS does that. I as a gamer, who has gaming as a hobby and invests his time and money on it, I care about the machine I am getting. If my gaming machine isn't giving me enough power to my games, and instead locks its resources to features that don't matter to my games, I think its wrong and I could instead "build" my own gaming machine with that same money for a better game experience, ie my PC.

But I buy consoles, because they get support from game devs, because they are fixed machines to develop for. If the consoles start a trend of being weaker, to manage costs, or being too costly because they have to be powerful and cater to non gaming activites, then I see a slow death of the purpose of these machines. I don't want that to happen as I see my hobby gets diluted due to market decisions and not decisions meant to foster gaming.

I am not MS or SOny, I care about the machine I buy, the machine they give the devs to make games. If that machine has started a trend of becoming a TV box or a coffee maker, its pretty obvious I don't want that. I want my money to buy me a gaming a machine and not my money to get wasted in fluff a gamer can do without.

I am not buying the XBoxOne, all I stated was i don't like the trend it has sparked already, cos it makes my future consoles not focused on games, hence more a waste of money. As a gamer, and a dev, i want new gaming features, not new TV or shopping features.

I know you megaminds are gonna say "Buy a PC , then!" Of course, thats exactly what I am saying. I don't like the trend of gaming power getting sidelined for other features. If the trend continues, gaming as a hobby will have to move on or back to PC.

Funny, when I joined B3D, next gen and console discussions was all about graphics ! Now we are happy our consoles are not all about graphics, but about "extra features" that don't contribute to gaming at all !

Oh, in other news, MS has confirmed you will get achievements and gamerscore for watching TV programmes ! Yes ! Yay for evolved gaming !

EDIT:
XBoxONE will be region locked too

I am sure this makes my heart warm as a gamer.

It's too complicated to analyse the effect of power on this gen, what with factors like the PS3 being more expensive, the 360 having the multiplat advantage and the PS3 having the better looking 1P titles.

This will be the first time two consoles launch at the same time at the same price with one being clearly more powerful than the other.

It will be a good test of whether the core are just a vocal but ultimately insignificant minority or whether they can influence wider buying behaviour through word of mouth.

How do you know the price? Clearly more powerful?

I think its clear from the technical specifications that the PS4 is clearly more powerful.

The GPU's are the same architecture, the CPU's are identical. The only difference is the memory setup and the GPU configuration.

PS4 has at least a 33% increase in all areas on the GPU (outside of read bandwidth).

Absolutely. Practically every multiplat in the last three years has used the SPUs extensively. That's how they managed to close the gap with the 360. Crysis had a good presentation on how they improved performance using SPU. And while, as you say, the exclusives were a step above, so were the exclusives on the 360. Exclusives will always be better performance wise than multiplats. It's the nature of the beast.

That's not because the cross platform games use the hardware features less, it's mainly because they have only half the time on each platform to optimize, and they often have an extra level of indirection due to needing to cater to multiple hardware configurations.

In most ways the ps and xbox are closer together than they've ever been ... xbox might dip a little more and Microsoft might pay devs to put in some platform specific post processing effects.

I think the battle will be more between Microsoft value added and Sony's lower cost (no subscription).

Clearly more powerful denotes not only technically more powerful but visibly so.

Who can make a claim that THAT is true? Ps360 versus Wii is "clearly" more powerful. Ps3 versus 360 was not.

Are you claiming that we will see a difference between ps4 and xb1 on the level of ps360 versus Wii?

If not then saying "clearly" is not the best terminology here.

We are talking about clearly from mathematical point of view here.

I don't really think it'd be fair to compare the consoles subjectively when a mathematical comparison makes sense at this point, and is also more rooted in reality.

Can we really say?

The difference between them regarding the available resources, at least on paper seem to be a bit bigger than the differences between PS3 and 360 I think. Of course not as extreme as PS360 vs Wii
Since they are more similar in architecture its easier to get an idea of how much more powerful one is over the other compared to PS3 vs 360 which had more different architectures. So they had overlaying performance advantages/disadvantages of one over the other (such as different types of memory and memory layouts different processors etc).

We will find out this E3 if thats enough to display a more noticeable difference in practice

At this point anyone saying that devs are not going to use esram are just making themselves delusionals

While listening to you eat a whole bag of Cheetos using its microphones of course. LOL
Then when you enable the camera, it'll see Cheetos and recommend you buy more junk food, streamlined so you can say, "Kinect, buy advertised product") whenever you see an ad you like and it's delivered by a local merchant. It'll be the perfect existence with the machines telling us what to do when. ;)

By having Kinect's camera optional, MS are in a good position to offer transitional technologies and wean consumers onto...spyware, for want of a better term. Take for example the pay-per-viewer film delivery option, where each unique viewer has to pay to watch content and it's disabled when someone new arrives. That could be offered as a service for cinema releases, say, so for those wiling to pay less and stay at home to watch the latest cinema movies, they have the option of using the spyware system that ensures each viewer is a paid up member (kids can sneak under the couch or peer out from under a tablecloth over the table...). Those unwilling to use such a system can disable the camera. The end result would be a market-driven balance between customer privacy and spy-based services.

Or of course make something pay-by-add, having gestures and words be required to acknowledge you've digested the add. ;) Fist pump and shout 'yeah' or 'Bud Forever' to close this beer add.

You are either a master of sarcasm or a very scary person :|

Is there any actual proof about what's described in the patent being implemented in Xbox One / Kinect 2.0?

Ha ha ! Some ppl on another forum are finding inventive ways of fooling the kinect ;) Like : print a poster of ur pic and put it on a wall and point Kinect that way  ! But of course, kinefct can sense thermal and heartbeats, so no one can hide from the evil eye.

I winder if th ekids under the table cloth will succeed ! MS is really gamifying everything, even watching movies !

ALso, I wonder how the achievements for watching TV shows will work. Will Kinect make sure, you are in front of the TV for say , atleast 80% of the program time ,or just leaving the correct channel on will suffice for achievements ?? Also, ppl usually answer nature calls during commercial breaks, I wonder if Kinect will make sure commercial breaks/ads happen ONLY when u r in front of the TV ! ROFL ! Weird MS is weird ;) !
