Weasel words ... basically this almost certainly translates to data gathering, which is then anonimized through aggregation. So have fun being puppets dancing in Microsoft's advertising testing lab.

With CISPA on the political agenda any privacy promises from US companies are worth nothing.

Damn, he seems so worked up, as if MS personally killed his entire family. Personally, I learned to ignore anyone who is that worked up over anything as they are not level headed. Their own personal agenda gets in the way of them seeing the situation clearly and with an open mind.

My thoughts are this:

What MS did wrong with XBOXONE was it diluted the console hardware industry. Now every console will need to also mess with TV. And instead of giving maximum powerful machines for games , hardware resources will have to be alloted to making extra features work. Either this will lead to weaker gaming machines or costlier gaming machines. I don't want any of that trend as it hampers gaming, no one else.

If MS had launched a separate product called Xbox Magic Tv and made it the water cooler it wants to I wouldn't mind at all. But making a GAME console diverge and do all this jist makes for bad trend that has started and cannot be stopped now !

just a repost, but it got lost in all the over enthusiasm here .

Kinect camera can be turned off in Privacy Settings...

here it is clear...

Henshaw: If you want privacy, we'll give you modes that ensure your privacy. And we actually have a little bit about this on the Web already. We will have something similar for the Kinect with Xbox One. The system is designed to have Kinect be an integral part of the experience. It's not the case where you'll be able to remove the camera altogether. But you'll be able to put the system in modes where you can be completely secure about the fact that the camera is off and can't see you.

Nah, I think he's on the money, MS are spruiking the as yet unknown value of their cloud processing to divert attention from the power deficit with the PS4.

Exactly ! They are just trying to whip up sme aura around a deficit device, in temrs of resources available to game devs.

I wonder how many ppl MS has got converted with this cloud BS. I have talked to three game devs working on next gen games, two in europe and one in asia, and none feel that there is anything special about the 32MB eSRAM or the Cloud power. They are calling it marketing fluff as the machine is clearly less powered than PS4 and with more hardware dedicated to extra features, providing less to games, MS is trying thier best to whip up a sense of magic around those two (unimportant)features.
They clearly said the same thing , that eSram won't get used in multiplats and we all know how much realtime data we can get calculated on the cloud and get it back in time.

Ditto. He made a good game in Braid, but he's been a total douche ever since. Not recommending any of his games to my friends & family. Maybe when we pulls his head out & eats some crow.

MS didn't dilute the console hardware industry, the console market did. The market never grew enough. The console makers just chased after more people outside the console market in order to stay in business. Sony started it with the DVD player on the PS2, then continued with the Bluray player on the PS3. Microsoft helped it along with Netflix & other video/music apps & Kinect. And now Microsoft is continuing with more TV functions & upgraded Kinect. And I'm sure Microsoft won't be alone later this year when Sony releases the PS4. Neither of them would be doing this if the gaming market was enough. So blame yourself along with Sony & Microsoft. LOL

Excuse me if I am wrong, but... isn't that downright impossible?

Marc Whitten and others openly admitted that the Xbox One is less powerful than the PS4. And people don't care as long as a machine is capable enough.

I mean... Hardware on a console is a pretty moot point.

The games will be developed to be optimized on that console regardless what the actual hardware is. :p

That's to say, unless it is an underpowered cartoony graphics only dog like the original Wii then I don't see the point.

Xbox One seems more than capable enough and it has its fortes for sure. -i.e. when I watched FM5 reveal trailer I drooled-

I doubt he actually admitted that, do you have a link?

And it would seem people (or at least core gamers) do care, otherwise there wouldn't be so many fanboys holding out for increased clocks, dual APUs etc nor would DF have done such roaring trade with their Face Off articles this gen if people didn't care.

In fact, the perception that your console is weaker than your competitors is probably more important than the actual difference in power. So despite PS4 having say a 30% real world perf advantage, the disparity will be viewed by the core as bigger and more important than it actually is. (I mean you just have to think back to the vociferous reactions to all the PS3 ports made by 'lazy devs' , BLOPS, GTA4, RDR, Skyrim etc which was completely disproportionate to the actual differences between the two platforms, to see my point)

But did any of that affect sales? Those games still did pretty well on PS3, and the Xbox 360 didn't really suffer for being Xbox 1.5. Most believe PS3 is far stronger even if it isn't.

I really hope you've never been to the city of London. Far worse.

Those are in public spaces.

It's a bit more invasive to have it inside your home, wouldn't you say?

Not to mention paying for the privilege of it having collect data on your behavior. Paying not only for the initial console purchase but probably some subscription to be able to use many of the features.

It's too complicated to analyse the effect of power on this gen, what with factors like the PS3 being more expensive, the 360 having the multiplat advantage and the PS3 having the better looking 1P titles.

This will be the first time two consoles launch at the same time at the same price with one being clearly more powerful than the other.

It will be a good test of whether the core are just a vocal but ultimately insignificant minority or whether they can influence wider buying behaviour through word of mouth.

I'm already resigned to the fact that you can't have Jarvis in Iron Man or the computer in Star Trek unless a microphone is listening to you all the time. Even having to press a button on some device isn't the same experience as at that point you might as well control it with a physical remote. It also doesn't work when you are far away.

Apparently you can turn the camera off. I don't mind them collecting Kinect data to improve voice and tracking as long as there is the option to opt out.
