Formula 1 - 2014 Season

F1 set to move to shock new frontier – but is it a good idea?

Formula One fans are very used to be shocked. So much so, that when Bernie Ecclestone announces that he is to take the sport to a surprise part of the world a weary reaction tends to follow.
The F1 supremo has now reportedly struck a deal to take the sport to the new frontier of Azerbaijan, and to hear that his old pal Flavio Briatore has been heavily involved in the talks will not come as a shock to anyone.

Are we forgetting McLaren has been carrying Johnny Walker (Whisky) branding rather prominently for many recent years.
I am making a general observation and this was just the latest example. I am aware of how pervasive alcohol advertising is in motorsports and I don't think it's right.

Azerbaijan has been hosting other FIA's racing series races before, too, so it's not that surprising new venue

especially when you consider how rich that place is.

Bernie lines his pockets while f1 continues to move away from its fans

F1 should not go to Azerbaijan. It will further tarnish the sport's image in the mainstream. What's next? Pyongyang Grand Prix 2016?

I am somehow neutral about Azerbaijan but the country itself is nice and probably it would be a great idea to go there...

About North Korea - I have nothing against them either, so why not?

Staying away from different types of propaganda, etc bullshit which only creates walls between people/ peoples

Azerbaijan? Nasty corrupt dictatorship in place there, I understand.

Bernie will fit right in.

Yeah because holding a race in a country that spies on the whole world, starts wars based on lies only to line their own pockets and tortures people in jail because they are supposed to be terrorist is OBVIOUSLY a much better place for a race...

Seriously the west is just as rotten as all those dictator countries, they're just better at hiding it.

Can you not generalise like that please.

Also he was more taking a jab at Berny than the country.

No, If you want to point the finger 4 is pointing back at you. Vote, form your own party, do something. Stop posting about it in a thread about formula one. Formula one is the most extreme sport without exception, that also goes for politics and money.

Want to change it, do it through real politics..

Lol what? I'm not the one saying we shouldn't go some place because of dictators/bad country/etc.Just commenting that if you think F1 shouldn't go some place because of the above reason, F1 doesn't really have a whole lot of places left it can go to because the west (yes yes, not all countries) aren't really that much better.

Personally I don't care where F1 goes as long as the circuit is able to deliver a good race. Which means anywhere but a Tilke circuit.

He didn't say that.

Sorry for the continued OT, but here is an indication why I made my little jibe at Bernie/Azerbaijan:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Azerbaijan

Worse than Bahrain despite the recent crackdowns in the gulf.

Western countries are, at least, democracies, even if we do seem to re-elect parties who are pretty much the same when it comes to their overseas policies. Self-interest always rules.

Obviously morality doesn't come into F1 in any way, shape or form. It's all about the money and Bernie, now a convicted crook, is the perfect person to run the whole affair. Doesn't stop me having digs at him (and his various dictator friends), at least not here in the UK. If I were to do the same in Azerbaijan or Bahrain, who knows what might happen?

You can't judge as an external observer, how do you know that what's written in wikipedia is true, and not a lie from the western propaganda? HOW?

you can only dream about democracy, western countries are everything but democracy and do show it all the time!

Let the people of that country say whether they are happy or not! This is the true democracy, not some freaking weird american to come with a war to force you to be democratic!

I've seen and heard news reports on the TV and radio which discuss the human rights situation in Azerbaijan in previous years. Never looked to wikipedia about this country in the past (and why would I?), but it is the go-to 'source' for the internet, hence the reference.

Now, I've never been to Azerbaijan (have you?), but unless "The Man" is in control of all the UK media, including the BBC, as well as the general internet reportage, I'm guessing that the human rights abuses which have been discussed are real.

Anyway, let's finish this OT for now. Bernie (and flunkies) will continue to make his money which is, of course, all that matters if this new GP does actually come about.

Journalist a makes something up and tells journalist b who then prints it.

One thing we know for sure is the Schumacher family and his doctors aren't saying anything so I'm calling bs on that article.

Signs aren't good since he hasn't woken up yet but hang in there Schumi

Sad to say but Schumacher we all know is gone :(
He died the moment accident happened. I don't think he will ever regain conciousness and even if he will, he will not remember much if anything at all. This coma is simply too long and he is not Steven Seagal from the movie Hard to Kill.
