Formula 1 - 2019 Season

Hamilton was directly behind Bottas. From Hamilton's interviews it sounded like there weren't any flags out yet by the time he got there. And from the looks of this video, it was only single when Vettel got there: https://www.formula1.com/en/video/2019/10/Qualifying__Bottas_suffers_big_shunt_at_the_end_of_Q3.html

You can actually see in that video how close behind Hamilton was, and that the flag wasn't out yet.

I think it's probably time to stop looking for reasons why Hamilton should have got a penalty now. And I mean that generally (after 10 years...) not just for Q3 in Mexico.
FIA has now confirmed that there were no flags at the time Hamilton got there (so too close to Bottas for marshals to react), which is why he didn't get penalized.

Formula 1 rule changes: The Secret Aerodynamicist
October 30, 2019
The aim of the new regulations is to make it easier for one car to follow another car without losing performance, and therefore to get closer racing and more overtaking.

This is where the new regulations come in. In order to try to reduce this problem and allow cars to follow much more closely, F1 has taken a two-fold approach.

The first step is to tightly restrict what geometry we can design at the front of the car, particularly the front wings and in the areas around the front wheels.

This will reduce our ability to push the tyre wake away from the car.

The second is to allow for much more powerful diffusers - the curved part of the rear floor of the car, where the air underneath the car exits - and rear wings.

This is intended to have the effect of scooping up the wake and throwing it over the top of any following car - creating an 'up-wash', as it is known.

There is concern from some quarters that this extra up-wash itself will reduce the performance of the following car, particularly the front wing.

This is one of the concerns the big teams have pointed out to F1 when criticising the rules - that the new cars will be afflicted by a catastrophic lack of front-end grip.

However, the research conducted by F1's in-house aerodynamic department appears to suggest that this is outweighed by the increase in clean air delivered to the second car.

There have also been noises from some teams suggesting that the lack of freedom will make the cars look more uniform and reduce the reward for doing a good job of design.

RBR will for sure keep Albon imho. Kubica is out, Latifi in at Williams. Gasly and Kvyat still at Toro Rosso or Alpha Tauris or whatever it'll be called. Hulkenberg reserve driver Ferrari?

I'm pretty sure Hülkenberg just said in some interview that he's not interested to be a reserve/test driver for any team, he'd rather leave F1 altogehter

okay sounds plausible, he can go to wec if he wants to win the wec championship to add to his le mans, then kubica as reserve driver somewhere, he brings a sizeable budget but I doubt he will be able to drive fp1 or something

Found it in english too

With Red Bull set to keep the four drivers it runs across two teams in place next year, the only other chance of a race seat for Hulkenberg could be to step into Antonio Giovinazzi’s seat at Alfa Romeo. Hulkenberg said he could see himself driving for them, but ruled out a reserve or test driver role at any team. “That’s not an option,” he said.
Hulkenberg suggested he could “maybe not race for a while” if the right opportunity doesn’t come along for next season.
Not quite "leave F1 altogether" but not driving next season is an option and definitely not reserve/test driver for anyone

Interesting tidbit ...
The Italian cars have dominated F1 over a single lap for two months, their pace founded on their prodigious straight-line speed, and a car upgrade at the Singapore Grand Prix that gave them more downforce.

But on Saturday morning governing body the FIA issued a technical ruling underlining that it would be considered illegal for any team to tamper with the operation of the meter restricting fuel flow. This came as a response to an inquiry from Red Bull, in the context of Ferrari's advantage, into certain potential methods of increasing the fuel flow.

Sky commentators seemed to be saying this was a confirmation that you can do certain things? Or is that a different ruling?

congrats to lewis, hes been the best while ferrari has found new and exciting ways to lose.

also nice to see mclaren consistently in the top 10 and also my man danny ric doing his thing.

Giovinazzi has been confirmed to drive for Alfa Romeo next season too, so looks like Hülkenberg is out of F1 for next season.

guess the italians still have some say then, there were speculations that alfa romeo would be toning down their involvement since the car company is not doing well

hulkenberg is better than stroll, but hulkenberg's father doesn't own a racing team in f1 so thats out. lets face it, it's not likely that hulkenberg will return to f1 if he sits out a year

United States Grand Prix: Ferrari reject poor performance claims
Ferrari have rejected claims that their poor performance at the US Grand Prix was caused by a rule clarification issued over the weekend in Austin.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen said he was "not surprised" Ferrari had been off the pace following the ruling, adding: "That explains everything."

Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said his comments were "disappointing".
...
Leclerc and Vettel said their problems in the race were caused by a lack of grip, for which the team did not yet have an explanation.

Rival teams noticed a difference in the performance of the Ferrari on the straights in qualifying and race, saying its advantage had reduced compared to previous races.

Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff said: "We've just had a discussions about the data from the race and the speed trace looks totally different to the last few races, whether it is down to the technical directive I obviously don't know because we can't look into what Ferrari has done."

Also Toro Rosso (or was it Alpha Tauri next season already?) will continue with Kvyat & Gasly
"yay"

lol I am not big fans of either, but sure Red Bull are in a pinch since they are in the business of mainly destroying careers and thus their young drivers programme is barren of talent
