Uh oh, according to german Auto Motor und Sport Mercedes has to redesign their nose before the 1st race, because it didn't pass the crash tests

Yeah, they have had to be crash tested before the first test.

Went to read on the original site, and used google translation, apparently they had already NEW nose which didn't pass the crash test, which they had planned to use in melbourne, so they'll have to use the same nose they used in testing now.

Which failed on Lewis Hamilton quite quickly and had to be reinforced before they sent car again next day ...

Great engine, not so good noses :devilish:

Can't wait till first practise begins!

Less than an hour left to Practice Session 1 for 2014.

Rain forecast for Sunday would most probably emphasize the "expect the unexpected" race!

And it's on!

....aaaand there goes Hamilton, fresh power unit changed yesterday, lasted half the installation lap apparently :D

After watching them hum around the track for a while i have really come to dislike the sound of the engines, they are much too quiet/low pitched.

Kimi needs to get used to the Ferrari sooner. Fernando looks well at these moments.

Rain forecast for tomorrow now.

Ferrari is saying that their top priority atm is to fix the problems with the car on Kimi, it works quite fine on Alonsos style (brake hard and attack the corner heavily), not so well on Kimi's (smooth it around the corner), the new "brake-by-wire" especially is easier for Alonso's style apparently

F1's new sound gets thumbs down

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Formula One's new sound has received the thumbs down from a few big names of motorsport.
The switch to V6 turbo hybrid engines may suit automakers, but some observers believe they've stripped away the sport's powerful sound.
During Friday's testing sessions for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Indy Car driver Will Power tweeted he was "missing the scream of the old F1 cars," while team owner and ex-Cart champion Jimmy Vasser said the cars were "looking slow and ugly and that sound...."
NASCAR's Michael McDowell wondered "Maybe TV is not doing them justice. Are they even shifting?"
Even the F1 drivers were unhappy. After an Australian Air Force fighter jet flew over the track on Friday, Marussia driver Max Chilton said, "Finally some noise returns to the F1 paddock."

Shame for Räikkönen, there was too much traffic on his first lap, and timing (why does that sound so familiar? :D ) was off again, he wouldn't had time anymore for another flying lap regardless of if he had crashed or not

Rain a great leveler for red bull today although still way of the pace set by Hamilton. Obviously some speed in the red bull chassis but I bet they wish they changed to Mercedes when they had the chance a few years ago. Still with 3 tenths down they have a lot to do.

Hopefully riccardo can keep up this level of performance for the year.

Rain a great leveler for red bull today although still way of the pace set by Hamilton.

The engine is hosed on the Red Bulls, but their aero package is probably the best in the field. They have lots of down force but not enough going-forward force.

Melbourne is almost a best case for them, it is one of the tracks they will suffer the least down the short straights. Horner will pray for rain tomorrow.

Cheers
