Formula 1 - 2014 Season

Entertaining quali, but disappointed Alonso couldn't make the inters work in Q3.

Kevin Magnussen did a great job, same with Kvyat, but Ricciardo just grabbed his first chance with a front-running car and almost got P1. Daniel just couldn't live with Hamilton in the end, the Merc is the class of the field atm.

Just watched a replay of Q3 qualifying, was pretty close at the end.
I hope Ricciardo can carry that momentum into todays race, would love to see him battling it out with the mercs.

Having said that i predict;
1 - Ham
2 - Ros
3 - Alon
4 - Ric
5 - Mag

Also;
Raikkonen, battling to make the the top-ten cut-off, was the most notable casualty, crashing into a wall at turn 14.
The frustrated Finn, known to F1 fans as The Iceman, wasn't enjoying the conditions.
"It seems to always be tricky here," he said.
"For some reason when we come here, it turns out to be nice weather and then it rains down. That's how it is."
I love Kimi, always good for a laugh.

I think their will be a nice battle between Kimi and Vettel.

Did his ass get too hot from the batteries?

Heh

Apparently his problems, aside from the new brake-by-wire-system not suiting his braking style (yet), comes down to same as with Lotus - the steering isn't to his liking

Have you noticed that usually the 5th starting position is reserved by booking for Fernando?! Hope is that he will compete like a real fighter to win the race! Now!

That's bad, Kimi could use him at 2nd spot when he gets the Ferrari to suit his style and finisheh on pole every qual :p

Let's hope they can get the Ferrari even near the front row.

Shouldn't Ferrari be able to produce a steering rack that is approx. the same as the one they had last time Kimi was there?

Considering the car is so different from the last one Kimi drove there, I doubt it's all that simple, but let's hope they sort it out quick.

2 mins to start!

1 - Ros
2 - Ric
3 - Mag
4 - Butt
5 - Alon

Ferrari said both cars were having some electrical problem, causing both cars to lose some power; Though it does just sound like an excuse.
Merc is looking strong, though perhaps slightly unreliable.
Rosberg is also in solid form.

Ricciardo couldn't compete with Ros but shown real strength and determination to hold onto second even with another Merc breathing down his neck for half the race.

An excuse for what? Two cars finished, one in fifth place. Thats not such a bad result for the first race of the season.

Anyway I think I might be supporting Williams this year. The penis cars still look stupid but the livery is great.

The cars do need to get louder though. I don't really mind the sound they make, kinda compare it to a 458 Italia or a Mercedes SLS, but it's just not loud enough. You could hear the tires squealing for God's sake...

Ricciardo's Red Bull had more pace than I expected. Surprised by Hamiltons retirement, didn't expect Mercedes to have reliability issues. The ferraris were a disappointment, the McLarens weren't.

The biggest surprise was Bottas in the Williams. Advancing through the field twice to end 6th, 47.6 seconds off Rosbergs time, just 23 seconds off Ricciardo, was the most impressive drive of the day, IMO.

As for the sound, people bitched and moaned when the GT prototype cars went diesel, didn't make for less interesting racing.

Cheers

Yeah because how many times didn't Audi win that in the past couple of years? And those cars still sound laughable. Every time I'm watching lemans and one of those cars comes on screen I gotta check my speakers to see if they're still on.

Edit: Look at it like this. Go to a Pink Floyd gig (well, David Gilmore and friends) and the music is still great even if they're playing under supermarket TL lighting. Doesn't change the fact that it's much less entertaining, in some respects even disappointing, compared to watching them play with all the lasers and stuff going on.

Racing cars are supposed to have loud engines, it's part of the show and without it it just isn't as good.

The 908s dominated 2009 and 2010. The 908 didn't win Le Mans in 2011, but dominated ALMS. The Toyota TS030 has been competitive in 2012 and 2013.

This years Le Mans we will see the new TS040 from Toyota as well as Porsche's return to LMP1.

Racing cars are supposed to win. Everything else is secondary.

Writing poems basically saying nothing....

It is better with low noise levels, because as someone previously mentioned in the 2013 thread, it was a nightmare for the spectators because of that painful engine roar!

Yes, disappointment day for Ferrari. Hope is that they will figure it out how to improve, otherwise the next zero season for them

Cowboyashi has been cleared from the accusations of causing a crash, he had no rear brakes due system failure

Ricciardo might get disqualified for breaking the 100kg/h fuel consumption on several occasions during the race (or rather, 0,02777...777g/millisecond, as fuel flow is checked every ms for the rule)
