Yap... I was trying to look for alternative methods of implementing lens flare and how they can be relevant/applied to gaming. I did not notice any lens flare in the trailer/demo though.

That's a disappointing solution. I was hoping for raytracing within the virtual lens, 14 iterations (for 7 element lens), with mathematically accurate glass and coatings!convert RGB -> luminance
...
(do this multiple times at multiple scales if you want to simulate the presence of more tha one lens..)
It's possible, I suppose. We've seen plenty of games use DOF and motion blur to help cover up jaggies. There's also the old "edge filter + selective blur", but IMO that gives poor results based on what I've seen in my own experiments and also in the GRAW2 demo for PC.
I think its probably more a result of the low-contrast colors used, which did wonders for Gears of War.

It's there..all the time..you just don't notice it*Chuckle* This lens flare effect doesn't seem to "do much" and is not in the trailer. I wonder what they are used for. Perhaps the player will be dealing with Helghan's flash light, strobes and some pecular lightning effects ?
You can't tell, but your brain can..and that's why it looks so good to many ppl though they can't properly explain whyI will have to look harder then. The developers better do a bunch of before and after pictures because noobs like me may not be able to tell.

rendering bug, the same thing happens during the intro sequence several timesCan anyone explain to me these pics?

EDIT: I watched the trailer again and I think I can see the subtle effect now. They are indeed "everywhere" from the exit lights, head lights, explosions, ... but it still would be nice to have a "with vs without" picture/video though. Thanks guys.
It's fading gradually after being covered by an obstacle.rendering bug, the same thing happens during the intro sequence several times
Yeah, I really noticed such effects when I was frame-stepping through the trailer on my PS3. Then they really stood out.
There's a common view in the arts/media industries - if you do something well enough, people don't notice. Not consciously anyhow. When you can see the bloom, it's poorly done. When you don't notice the bloom, but the pictures look 'really good', it's because the bloom is applied convincingly and it adds to the realism. Chances are film grain and lens flares won't be noticed consciously but will add to a sense of realism and liking of the visuals. It'll be a je nais se quoi feature.
I looked up the correct spelling. I think you're confusing the French with the Latin. I thought it was a French phrase, but 'The Internet' said it was Latin. It's more" Ã je ne sais quoi", you wrote "I was born it what"
