Some indication of sales with GPU Shipment, some error they think x360 has and AMD GPU + x86 GPU, it is centered around AMD

If those numbers are to be believed and within ballpark range of their own research, then XBO worldwide sales are probably between 36-39 million. Statista has XBO at 34.16 million units at the end of 2017 (versus peddie's 32.15m).

FWIW, my guess was 34-35M as of the end of 2017 using my usual US=58% of sales and NPD sales data.

XB1 has sold ~847K in the US from January-March 2018, so my guess is they sold another ~1.46M WW.

Sea of Thieves is the fastest-selling Rare game ever tracked

“Sea of Thieves was the second best-selling game of March, and is the eighth best-selling game of 2018 year-to-date,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella wrote. “Sea of Thieves generated the highest launch month sales for any title produced by developer Rare since tracking by The NPD Group began in 1995.”

That timeframe would include Rare classics like Nintendo 64 shooters GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. Microsoft acquired Rare in 2002, but it has never had a breakout hit for the publisher because you criminals don’t appreciate Viva Pinata. Sea of Thieves, however, is that breakout hit.

This part was a bit weird.

So in terms of dollar sales, Sea of Thieves is the No. 8 game of 2018 so far. That actually makes it the highest platform exclusive on the list (although PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is No. 7, and that only includes Xbox One sales). That will change for the April NPD report, which will include PlayStation 4 blockbuster God of War.

Both games are on PC and XBO. So wouldn't PUBG also be platform exclusive as they can't mean Xbox only since SoT is also on PC.

I'll be surprised if GOW doesn't pass it, however. Still it's a great accomplishment for Rare no matter how you look at it.

SB

What a strangely worded article, lots of info that really doesn't tell you much or adds to confusion. I think the only real take away to get towards a real number is #8 for 2018 through March. I can only think of Monster Hunter and Far Cry as big releases, so what are the other five?

The best-selling games of 2018 so far
1. Far Cry 5
2. Monster Hunter: World
3. Dragon Ball: Fighter Z
4. Call of Duty: WWII
5. Grand Theft Auto V
6. NBA 2K18
7. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds**
8. Sea Of Thieves
9. MLB 18: The Show
10. Mario Kart 8*

GTAV?!! wow

1. Far Cry 5
8. Sea Of Thieves
9. MLB 18: The Show

So these are the two titles from March? Seems like Far Cry 5 was responsible for a bulk of March SW sales and the rest picked up the crumbs.

More than star wars? (adjusted for true inflation) when you include all the star wars merchandise

is that Sea of Thieves is Rare's fastest selling title ever, and that doesn't include any numbers from Xbox Games Pass.

Fastest selling is kind of a meaningless metric in a world of pre-sales and front loaded releases. I'm glad they beat Viva Pinata or whatever, but Rare has been pretty abysmal for over a decade so the bar was low. I think they just searched for something that made good PR, otherwise just say how many units were sold.

Something like this:

Looks like hogwash. Evidently they are projecting ~21 million PS4 and 4.28 million Xbox Ones to ship in 2018 (lol). Xbox One will likely sell around or more than 4.3 million in 2018 in the USA alone for certain (sold about 4.2m in the USA in 2017, up YoY so far).

Besides that, no sources are listed, although the PS4 numbers are probably derived from Sony's publicly announced fiscal ship numbers, I didn't verify that but it looks close. Although I dont think Sony is even projecting 21m in 2018,

Hell even 2017 Xbox in the table, looks like whatever they're talking about, is 4.3 million, which again ~USA sales only. So maybe wires got crossed somewhere.

There was another pie chart in there that made no sense whatsoever. The one that has slices like Wii 19%, PS4 12%. Go home Jon Peddie, you're drunk. I think they assigned an intern to that project.

Although the idea that a lot more Triple A games are actually played on AMD GPU's than Nvidia due to consoles, is one that's been in my head lately. Outside the scope of console forum.

Might as well use VGChartz, it might be where this article got its Xbox one data anyways. It’s a shill piece produced for the benefit of AMD. It’s highlighting a really big console userbase of x86 based hardware using the lifetime sales of a seventh gen console (360) that hasn’t been relevant for the last 3 years. It’s even more glaring when you consider the fact that the 360 isn’t even x86 based. LOL.

AMD wont have an x86 based userbase of 224 million consoles in 2018 and AMD won’t own 53% of the x86 based gpu hardware market in 2018 either.

The report paints a false narrative by clumsily using a bunch of related facts and figures that seem to contradict each other rather than paint the rosy picture that AMD wants from Peddle.
