Leak of first party sales on PS4 and PS5, crazy sales for Bloodborne 7.64 millions. Sales until end if february 2022.
Those digital sales lower than I was expecting!

I liked Resistance, especially R2 and its bunch of modes, so would be interesting to see what they could come up with.
Even if the Spiderverse game is cancelled, that track shows multiplayer architecture, so that tech might still be alive/developed, even though the game got cancelled.

Those playstation numbers are staggering. No wonder companies allocate minimal budget to PC versions. Insomniac game production costs are pretty reasonable. Wonder if those numbers are similar for Sony big games in general.

Sony said they sold 50 million sPs5 until 9 th december 2023

EDIT:

"Given the momentum we've had in November and a lot of what we're seeing in December, just in general we're feeling very good about sales overall," said Eric Lempel, senior vice president for global marketing, sales and business operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment

Nonetheless, Lempel said the latest Black Friday sales period helped make it the biggest November for PlayStation sales, when measured by both units and revenues, in Sony’s almost 30-year history in gaming.

About where I'd expect them to be considering it's been widely reported that digital sales are a significantly higher proportion of game sales on Xbox than on PlayStation. That would help explain why MLB the Show 2021 has such a high digital sales ratio. It was the first multiplatform MLB the Show game.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves also shows why publishers greatly prefer digital over physical.
  • 569k sell-in vs 329k sell through.
  • 249k physical units that were manufactured but were unable to be sold.
  • ~82.25k physical units actually sold (25% of sell-through)
A prime example of costs that aren't recouped if you incorrectly predict how many physical copies are going to sell. Many times, when you see publishers say X title failed to sell to expectations, you can bet they likely have a huge stockpile of unsold physical copies of the game because they incorrectly predicted how many would sell. Thus they now have a potentially large stockpile of waste and unrecoverable sunk costs.

Also, looking at the chart you can see that over time sales are slowly moving over from physical to digital. I'd imagine that the digital share is even higher for FY2022.

Regards,
SB

Top sellers, best-selling new releases, most-played games on PC, most-played games on Steam Deck, highest-grossing early access games, most-played with a gamepad, and best-selling VR titles are among the categories. It's a nice glimpse of the games Steam users played the most this year, and it serves as a reminder that titles that seem to be on the decline still have a lot of active players.

It's worth noting that Steam did not score the games in each category but instead examined data from January 1st, 2023, to December 15th, 2023, to make the list.
