Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio to develop Xbox 360 Splinter Cell

Given that I'll guess the screenshot is from the cutsceen, with a real time verison being developed for the 360.

i would guess that too, but it doesn't explain the 16x9 aspect ratio, and 720p resolution

Real-time version being developed for the 360 is right here.

well I gave you one better, the developer stating straight out that the player will be able to control the skydiving sequence in the 360.

he states: "created a number of scenes, which are fully playable,"
and: "The skydiving sequence is one example,"

yeah, but my logic was that if said journalists have witnessed the scene being played, then they would be able to either confirm or deny whether said interactive cutscene looked like those screens (thus either confirming them as being from xbox cgi or x360 interactive cut scene).

hope that made sense....

however, the screen just posted from the xbox cut scene does look different (i know it's in a different environment, i mean from a visual standpoint) so that does indeed lend weight to these screens being from the 360 version.

which frankly, would make me a very happy chappy

SC3s cutsceens were all 16:9 and surely rendered at more than 720p as well, so I don't follow your argument.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, #2 was a red herring sorry ;)

Those shots even though at 720p can in no way be direct framebuffer grabs (of in-game content). 4xAA does not look that good, let alone the insane gemoetry and shadowing detail that's present. But do not fear as #3 also implies #2 by virtue of still suggesting that it is rendered in-engine, just at a higher resolution.

But to add more fuel to the speculation bonfire, it seems that Splinter Cell has been delayed on all formats until September 2006.

In addition, the rescheduling to September 2006 of the launch of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double AgentTM is meant to release the title on all platforms simultaneously, including the Microsoft Xbox® 360 that should have a much larger installed base by that time. This will also enable to maintain the highest quality for which Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® is recognized. This rescheduling will ensure the best return from the coming release as well as from future sequels of this brand over time.

splinter cell, gears of war.. quite a fall lineup, didn't other higher profile games also scheduled to come out then?

Off the top of my head i think that Mass Effect, Too Human, Lost Planet, and that cell shaded one whose name escapes me...

Yeah this Fall/Winter will be the true start (I hate to say it like that) of next-gen games.

Disclaimer: This is nothing against the 360 and I'm not making the PS3 look like a GOD either. Just stating that games around that timeframe seem to have a (only next-gen) look to them.

Well it raises more questions than it answers. Doesnt look like any gameplay footage but if any of this is realtime, then it looks fantastic. I cant see that theres any way of knowing whats prerendered or not though.

Not to be a smart ass, but to me it would seem pointless to wait this long and hype up a world premiere in your own country for the first time just to show a CGI or 90% CGI clip commerical.

I think most of it is real-time.

Yes agreed, but i'm not ruling it out. And in terms of a productive discussion on the trailer (i.e. impressive/unimpressive), without an official word, i see a lot of screengrabs, zooms, and side-by-side comparisons in this threads future. :(

Again that just wouldn't make sense. It seems to me they should or could have done that months ago. And compared to MOH:AA (Oh god I hate to do this comparison stuff but) it seems to be what next-gen on the X360 is and will really be like. I mean everyone here knows that the Xenos is a beast anyway. Should we really expect games in the future to continiously look like COD2?

me think 100% CGI

Hasn't ubisoft basically said they are doing away with CG cut-scenes on 360? Everything on the 360 should be realtime, so why would they release a trailer that was 100% CG?

Makes no sense.

After watching the trailer, looks about 30% CG to me, lots of scenes that look realtime. Like the ones where he being photographed, that's basicalyl the in-game model right there I'm sure.

These must be realtime, anything less would be too small of a step up from the XBOX version of 2004 which already has extremely good character models.
