The PSVR launch thread

Like crap, really? Hmmm. Is the demo worse than the full game? Or did I just get far into the game much faster than most people? (I'm a musician so rhythm games are generally easy)

i only tried the demo and the many-many contrasting objects with black background (but looks grainy grey) looks really bad, combined with the screen-door-like effect that is very apparent

Weird, I must confess I was wondering what the fuss was about...it's nice but will wait for a sale I think as I'll probably buy Rez. However, not quite sure what you mean about the SDE and looking really bad? Maybe you didn't have the headset set to it's best position for that game? I thought it looked really nice.

EVE: Valkyrie looks and plays very good. Now would be a good time for Sony to resurrect some old space shooter franchises like Starhawk and Colony Wars.
About the drifting left issue I was complaining earlier. It's not in every game, for example in Arkham and Job Simulator don't really seem to drift much at all. In Rez it had drifted pretty bad to the left after a lenghty session.
I'm not completely sure but it seems that maybe it's mostly in the demo games, need to do some more testing.
I did calibrate the headset lights and camera again so that I moved the camera more right, so that the left camera lens (from viewer position) is now the one that's directly in front of me, as that seems to be the one that's used while calibrating the headset lights, whereas the right one is used when calibrating the camera position. That seemed to help also, or then it was the fact I unplugged PS4 and PSVR processing unit completely from mains and usb and HDMI for a while. Need to play some more today to find out if it really helped.

To me the image quality in Thumper was among the better ones for PSVR, much less fuzzy than most. After using the PSVR now for a few days, I find that for best IQ I need to wear it much higher in the front and lower in the back that I first did. This does leave a visible gap in the lower part where light leaks in but that's soon forgotten as I get immersed in a game.
First I started using PSVR I tended to adjust the screen so that it blocked all light from below, and I think that might have affected me not being able to get the focus just right.
I did use contacts then, might be I need to wear it different now that I'm wearing glasses, but the image is a bit sharper now.

I wear Psvr in the sharpest possible position. I determined this by holding PS button and moving around the headset until the text looks pin sharp and I almost can see the black mesh-like effect.

Also until I got zero colour ringing.

Rez looks marvelous. Probably due to the bright environments? Thumper is really bad looking.

Harmonix music also looks fantastic.

Btw the best position for me is the screen a bit higher than center. So I can easily see the bottom border. Ugh :(

I don't think it is innocent. The girl talks a lot of suggestive themes.

Something in the line of "I'm not comfortable with a stranger in my room, but I'm okay with you".

And then sharing her private life talk with you, a stranger.

If it is was marketed as VR experience, it is actually quite good albeit too pricey. But as a game, it is booooooooooring. So little interaction.

They should make the dlc something like : field trip across Japan.

That would be much nicer VR experience. Still not a good game tho.

How are you guys cleaning the lenses?

Just the included microfiber tissue isn't enough, and pushing some breadth + tissue isn't enough either. The lenses are now constantly greasy..
For example, getting a normal tissue with dishwasher liquid with water to clear out the grease, would that be okay?

I'm just tired of further spreading the grease and getting a worse experience every time I use the headset.
Isn't there some form of coating I could apply to avoid the lenses from getting wet and greased?

Of course not. Its soft porn disguised as a inocent study-with-a-girl simulator. Its pretty clear what the aim was, although the devs will never admit it.

Do you also call it "soft porn" when you're talking to an attractive person and dirty thoughts happen to cross your mind?
To be honest, this is clearly what I'd expect the likes of Polygon and Kotaku to find some twisted way to eventually call it "porn". They'll probably go to the extent to call it "porn with underage girls", just to push the narrative even further.

It's not by any means innocent but calling it soft-porn is quite the long shot.
There's no nudity or sex. Any erotic stuff will only happen in your imagination.

It's a girlfriend/waifu simulator, like many similar and popular games in Japan. In this case, interaction seems to be so limited that is should be closer to a visual novel.

This thing's problem IMO is that urban Japan already has a huge problem with lack of interaction between genders (at both men and women's fault). Experiences like these being made available will only deepen their social problem.

I use those disposable lens wipes but someone here said not to (I've no idea why not). What I'd really like to do is attaché a screen protector - maybe something like a smartwatch one both those are normally attached wet and Sony say not to use water.

I plan to buy some compressed air too.

I'm using just a slightly moist microfiber cloth and then a dry one in case there are any streaks left. Seems to work ok for me.
With compressed air would there be a danger to blow some dust and dirt particles onto the screen itself?

Surely the screen is sealed to prevent this happening?

Anything suitable for £2000 camera lenses ought to be okay for cleaning PSVR lenses, no? Maybe get some photographic wipes. The important point before using wipes is removing particles which might scratch the lens when dragged across. I don't know if some wipes can damage coatings.

As for not using water, my guess would be because you can have mineral deposits left behind. Distilled water should be fine, but it's no good for cleaning grease.

So tissue with water+dishwasher is not okay?

So many theories, so little direct answers :(
