GAHHH @ that Sony conference right in the middle of the god damn night! If I'd been a young man I'd just pulled an all-nighter, but now? No way, I'll wake up the day after, look up a link for the inevitable youtube upload...
With regards to Squeenix, will they ever make that demo they showed off at the PS4 unveiling into a proper game (the one with some girl being chased or maybe she was sneaking around, and a demon being summoned or something like that, it was so long ago I can't quite remember anymore what happened...), or will it simply remain a tech demo forever?
What about that knight game and the dragon, and all that fire? (Was Capcom though, I think? Hell, how about I wish for some god damn long term memory also in addition to being young again? Rofl... )
The past however many E3s, I've read about all the news the following morning and not been excited by any of it. Particular game announcements like Wild and The Tomorrow Children are recapped the following morning without the filler. The idea of staying up into the wee hours to hear a lot of game announcements doesn't excite me, especially when accompanied by lots of business talk and numbers. Counting sheep is supposedly a good way to fall asleep. Hearing PR numbers is even more effective IMO.Here is where we disagree though. I've always been glued to the screen for Sony conferences as far as I can remember, and if Oculus features in this one, then I'm pretty sure I will be again. And then I'm ridiculously excited for VR separately from all that.
"accompanied by lots of business talk and numbers" - this has been grossly exaggerated in the past, imho.

You mean the Final Fantasy VII cinematic remake with the train?
Most average E3 Press ConferencesWhat is with the down playing of what could be considered one of if not the best E3 Press Conferences of all time?

What constitutes a 'good presentation'? I think for many looking at E3, it needs to be something spectacular like new hardware. In all the other E3s, critique of the presentations has always been fair from what I can see (save PR misunderstandings), based on subjective feedback. People want to see games, want stuff that excites, and want (classy) spectacle. If a presentation is just a list of 'okay' games, it probably won't excite.I have my theories that I wont get into here, but they're only setting a higher level of performance for the other presentations, which likely means those will be failures. That is if they use the same level of expectations.
tl;dr - my cynicism is contagious and everyone's becoming jaded.
I don't think that's quite fair. How many TV shows could be previewed months in advance to fabulous excitement? They don't even bother. Games are appreciated when people have them and play them and talk about them. Expecting the gaming populace to be running around with the excitement of 5 year olds over some video clips nad rudimentary offerings is expecting too much.Yeah, the cynicism on here & the rest of the places I visit is really starting to grate on my nerves. It's like why do developers even try when they know everybody is going to crap on what they do anyway. Grrrr.

Looking at ramr's list:
Halo - predictable. Could be a great game, but it's hardly got novelty factor.
new Controller - interesting
Rare x 2 - subjective (does one like Rare games?)
BC - interesting, but how many people are going to be really excited to play XB360 games?
MC hololens - nice showcase, but Hololens is a ways off and likely pricey and we still don't know if Hololens is coming to XB1!
Modding for fallout! - nice, not setting the world on light
Early access - nice service
What would be a megaton for most folk? 5+ new, non-hinted epic AAA titles with 2015 release dates. Announcing Hololens/OVR on XB1 for $250. Final Fantasy as a platform exclusive. Thought control.
Now for fans, this show could be great, but most people aren't fans, just gamers. So expect similarly muted responses for general game showcases as we all remember the excitement of things like hardware announcements and the totally unexpected and the spectacle of a big show in previous E3s.
Obviously this kind of hyperbole is a question of taste. Don't fall into the trap of projecting your own tastes in games as universal facts.Well let me rephrase - each of those things, with the exception of the controller and rare, are likely to be more impactful that Sony's entire conference (unless they have some crazy COD exclusivity) and Nintendo punted this year.
