The Annual E3 general discussion thread, 2015 edition

We have two threads with the same name. One is the serious one and the other is fanboy bait. The titles should be changed accordingly.
My bad. My Mod-Fu was weak. Spawned this out of the MS discussion and meant to mix it in with the general E3 discussion (as the discussion is how unexcited some/many gamers are by typical game presentations, regardless who's presentation it is).

FF is a megaton in 2015 ? THe games barely sell anymore. Why would it matter if its exclusive ?
Because it's completely unexpected and has a long tradition of being a PS franchise. It's just one example of things that'd get gamers knickers twisted and them getting excited (positive and negative). MS buying the rights to Uncharted would be a similar megaton event that'd make a presentation worth watching.

Or MS announcing a new handheld completely out of the blue that doubles as a Windows phone.

Or MS announcing their own VR headset.

Lots of big ticket, improbable events could happen at any of these presentations and they're the ones that get forum posters writing excitedly. Some people are going to be enthusiastic with some upcoming game announcements, but the majority of us just aren't that into it. Doesn't matter who's showing.
I'm sure most people will like the sony one more if they are into vr as Morpheus will be a big deal there and sony is the darling of the gaming world right now
that's disingenuous. The posters who ramr was responding to were saying they personally weren't enthused by the games MS showed. The same games on PS4 would have the same response from the same posters (save the few fanboys). If Sony doesn't show the games that'll interest people, the response will be suitably muted. A VR showcase could prove very dull as it'll be video of someone else experiencing the joys of VR. Only if there are some exciting VR games announced, or a shockingly low headset price, will gamers respond excitedly to a VR show.

Remember that Nintendo 'won' E3 last year because their show was the most entertaining, and had unexpected newness, like Amiibos.

The average American is below average, and thus the concept of 24 hour clock is unnerving to them. They'd rather use AM and PM designations and completely fuck that up when it comes to Midday and Midnight; 12 AM is Midnight and 12 PM is Noon. Instead they think its 12 AM for noon because it comes after 11:59 AM and dont switch to PM until 1 PM, so nearly an entire hour they have mapped to the wrong time (12:00 to 12:59). The same thing with midnight and 1 AM, but reversed.

Silly people.

A 24 hour clock is much easier to understand.

It only ever mattered to me when I couldn't tell if 11:00AM or 11:00PM was an appropriate time to have a cocktail. As I've gotten older, I've decided it actually doesn't matter at all. :D

1) FF doesn't matter its been multiplatform for awhile and wouldn't justify the cost for MS to make it exclusive.

2) I'm talking in general. I was at work so I couldn't watch the conference and was reading the live blog at engaget. Everything was Microsoft plants cheering , MS shrills being the only ones excited about this or that. It was really sad to see

What's the drinking game this year?
I drink responsibly until the Sony conference, then the drinking word is "Morpheus".

If they name it officially something else, new name counts as the new drinking word.

I am just going to declare the Ouya presser as the best of the show. On a side note I need to find when the PC presser goes off.

Sorry, just kidding - not going to declare a winner that would just be IMO anyway. ;) I did find my Vita when I went to look for my 360 game discs, so maybe Sony shows us some love!

Sorry, there's no more Ouya. Razer bought it today.

So far as pacing of the press conferences go, I really like the faster pace of showing quick blurbs on the games and then having a daily wrap up show later in the day that goes into further details on the items announced.

I've already got bored a few times on the conferences where they drag out a developer and they give a talk about the game and trying to serve up some larger purpose and give backgrounds. Just show up the pre-canned clips and move on to the next topic.

For instance, the No Mans Sky presentation I found quite boring. I could do without the massive time sync of non-content being presented where the people are talking.

Like right now, I could really do without knowing how many hours the Destiny developer guy wasted on playing that game or what level he is, et.

Alright, what is this? Did I somehow get warped into a Nintendo Amiiboo conference?

EDIT: Nope, it's World of Final Fantasy or some such coming out in 2016.

Anybody disappointed we haven't heard about a Red Dead game? That was the biggest thing I was looking for. Maybe tomorrow at the start of the actual expo?

For me, I haven't analyzed the games yet, but Xbox conf had the better flow vs PS conf. What I'm wondering is that MS throwing a lot of "exclusive" on their conf, which might be a real exclusive or a timed exclusive while Sony at least use the word 1st on PS for what probably is a timed exclusive. So I need to see the breakdown and see which one is really an exclusive and which one is timed.

Lots of cool stuff, but nothing for me to scream about. I don't care about Shenme, FF, Rare games, etc.

360 BC is cool, but I no longer have any 360 games and can't think of worth buying again, especially with the Gears collection coming.

Horizon looks cool. The UC4 gameplay video was about the best thing I saw.

Most of the games in 2015 I'm wanting are MP. I'm not a fan of the exclusive DLC stuff either. Battlefront looked great too.

Oh ya, the MS stage was an eye soar, who approved that?

Some pre-e3 modesty wouldn't go amiss. When you hear of executives stating that it's going to be "the best e3 ever!" it raises expectations and can only disappoint. All in all, better than last year, but nothing mind-blowing.

What's up with all the bitter noise, threads and articles that I'm reading across certain sites. I think both Sony and MS had great conferences... though MS had better pacing/cohesion, IMHO. But all these articles/threads that Sony is dividing up gamers by having (so much) exclusive content and the changing of the guards with the "bro_bruh games" seems to be the hot topic of the internet... rather than the great games that are coming. Although a lot of its console warrior noise, certain major sites aren't helping gaming (gamers) by whipping up inflammatory articles on the matter.

The gaming industry as a whole, needs to grow up...
