Nice GOW/MGS4 Compare

I just think showing game footage has more relevence for a game like GoW that's coming out in 2006 vs something coming out in 2007/2008 where you don't need to show game footage so soon.

I've always used that little Helicopter clip as the point of reference for GoW comparisons. It's still a long, long way below the sheer quality of the character models on MGS4.

First of that GOW cutscene was running at hmmm (12?) FPS.. Secondly it wasn't nearly as impressive cause the camera was hardly moving around at all.. Also the gameplay vids of GOW don't even come CLOSE to those cutscenes. Lastly there still seem to be an incredible 3 people here who cling on wishing the 360 games will be visually comparible to the PS3.. (somehow I think that's admirable)

Maybe it was 12fps on your computer but it was fairly smooth on mine and that was a long time ago *hint* old kits. You actually think GoW cutscenes will run at your imaginary 12fps? Also camera movement is called cinematography.

Surely that's just one of many opinions...

Just look at the first post in this thread. GoW is easily on the same level as far as models are concerned. In fact GoW looks more 3 dimensional compared to MGS4. For those who started to daydream already.

This is the perfect example of people seeing things into the MGS4 trailer that aren't there. That there is a totally static piece of detail painted into the the textures, and it seems to be more like a scar from an old wound.

Laa-Yosh, all fanboi bickering aside (and its equally moronic from both camps)...but thats not a scar. Watch the trailer, those trails down his cheek dont appear until after he dives for cover from the explosion and the dust settles. Maybe it is a static texture or whatever but its right up Kojima's alley to throw in a completely irrational attention to detail like that. Were talking about the same director that had spilled ice cubes simulated melting in real time. :)

SGX-1, do you have a sample video?

I dont want to quote the pictures above but if you look at the guns on both picture, you can bet that MGS4's gun has better geometry and lighting than GOW, all i see in GOW is load and load of texture, which is not bad if you know how tou use them properly.

GoW weapons are imaginary and futuristic so of course they'll look different however know what a FN-P90 looks like? Does it have lots of geometry like that M-16 in MGS4 or whatever you call it? Of course not.

why put the effort into a detail like that when his suit is still clean as a whistle (baseball games have the uniforms of players get dirty and stay that way after they slide) ? unless he has on some kind of teflon on steroids coated suit

Look at the screenshot posted above. There's no denying reality or truth.

Right, so it's just bad taste then, because that screenshot posted above should prove to any normal person that MGS4 is far more detailed than GoW.

Two points of reference: the guns and their ears.

I wont get into all the other VS. stuff but I found this interesting since its the exact opposite impression I had. Im curious what seemed flatter to you on MGS4? I dont know if its just a more subtle/better use of normal mapping but the Snake model definitely "pops out" in a way I havent quite seen before, his armor/combat suit is just insanely detailed. You can clearly make out the different fabric its made up of with distinict soft/hard and textured properties, from rubber to mesh and kevlar like materials. And the assorted packs and clips he carries look more like polys rendered with care than a deceptively flat normal mapped shortcut. Not to mention the rifle model is out of this world. Even the trademark bandana is one of the most natural looking pieces of cloth Ive seen.

Sorry didnt mean to rave on too much but it honestly impressed the hell out of me. ;)

Ask Kojima, Im not the one that put it there. :) Im sure its not intended to be a scar though.

It's also a nice display of the irrationality of PS3 fans that SGX1 and scooby were talking about. There's no way to convince them of anything that wouldn't fit into their subjective world.

So now you know somebody that works for Kojima Productions right? That line of sweat was not on his face at the beginning of the video. Watch the offical Konami clip. At the 2:13 mark you can clearing see that the sweat on that side of his face is not there. You can also notice at the 2:13 mark he swallows some spit after the missiles hit the building across the street. It's called "attention to detail".

Now look at the explosion at the 3:03 mark. Notice that he lands on the left side of his face. Now look at his face at the 4:14 mark. You can now see the sweat on his face. And you can notice that overall his face is a little bit more dirter. The left side of his face is really more dirter after the explosion.

He's improving on things that you don't see. But if we watch the trailer 100 times you tend to notice more and more things.

And Laa-Yosh why are you putting scooby and SGX1 in a good light, while you put me in a bad one? After my detailed explination you owe me an apology. ;)

I agreed simply because my naked eyes tell me that mgs4 look more detail and the art is beautiful.

You guys are comparing the 3 dimensionality of the pics based on the TYPE of armor and TYPE of weapon? I'm at a lost for words...
