one thing im puzzled about was how they claimed to have the MP looking as good as the SP. i was always under the impression that SP will always look better, so that kinda leads me to think are they holding the SP back in terms of graphics just so everything looked consistent? personally i prefer to make the SP as good looking as possible with all its potential.
 
And why are you under that impression? Killzone MP doesn't seem as fast paced as Halo for instance. Milisecond differences shouldn't be a concern. Besides, if their engine is as optimized as I think it is, they should have no trouble at all pulling that off - broadband connection not optional.

Why would SP allways look better? Its normal to have a lot of things going on in KZ2, so theoretically it shouldn't be any difference.

I mean, this is a shooter that features lots of soldiers on screen, lots of explosions at the same time etc, in singleplayer, why should MP be any worse graphically? Why would MP somehow hold back SP?

I understand if the singleplayer part of the game only features 2-3 enemies at best at once, and not much was going, the MP might have to loose graphic fidelity to make up for the amount going on screen, but KZ2 features very hectic battlescenes in SP allready, so there wouldn't really be much difference compared to MP.
 
The SP levels may have more dramatic effects because of story and gameplay needs (e.g., storm, super dark with cool lighting moments). That said, an MP level with suitable environmental effects may be nice too (I am talking out of my *ss of course, since I have not experienced any yet).
 
I agree.

I understand the need\more usage of dramatic effects etc, but i dont see how a games SP would be held back by the MP. Its obvious to me that SP will have color lighting effects etc, as it can be applied more cleverly and you can decide how much is going on screen during these effects, as opposed to multiplayer so alot of things cannot be done because of framerate issues because how much is going on is random and not limited.

I dont see how a MP side of a game could hold back the SP side.

Do note that alot of developers say things like "it looks pretty much identical" when they clearly are far from identical.
 
As regards SP and MP development I believe that they had two seperate teams developing both at the same time (using the same engine base). As such most games do multiplayer later in development and may be under more pressure to hit deadlines etc. Maybe developing side by side goes part way to explain why the MP and SP graphic fedility is of the same calibur.
 
I dont know why people are pretending to believe that the MP graphics are "the same" as the SP graphics.
The MP textures look the way the SP textures (pre-streaming) did back in summer of 2007. The current SP textures look generally good , certainly not like the ugly, low res shit we were seeing the previous E3.
 
well i reckon the devs should spell things more specifically for the sake of SP vs MP comparison. so by my understanding, the MP would retain the visual qaulity of the SP "texture, lighting, shadows, geometry" while not neccessarily the dramatic aesthetics of the SP, and so to a point they can justify their statement of being parity. am i right?
i mean with the bottleneck of MP, you would think SP could excell in far better effects, of course in relative to the nature of the engine. but if the MP can do everything the SP can, then wouldnt the SP got hold back in a sense? sorry if im still confused about the whole thing.
 
Or that they managed to reach the goals they had for SP and now are looking to getting MP as good as possible.

I mean why does SP have to be better than MP?
If SP is great IQ wise, as I feel its safe to say with KZ2, then it should be an obvious goal of getting MP up to parity, instead of trying to make SP great+ and MP only good?
 
And now there is a closed beta starting, i guess this just means some divine power does not want me to finish within the deadline....
 
The things I'd do to get into this beta.
%%$@@ Little Big Planet, Wipeout HD, and Resistance 2, we've been waiting 3 goddamn years for this game, Sony. Just bundle the beta keys with cheap software or something, anything, just give more of us access to this beautiful looking game.

We're very different ... I'd probably give up the other ones for the LBP beta. But fortunately, I already have that one. ;)

Are you playing with humans, bots, or a combination of both?

Are you fighting solo or are you involved in squad/team dynamics?

Which of these games most closely resemble the actual feel of KZ2:
Team Fortress 2, Rainbow Six Vegas, or Resistance?

In your experience with the MP class system, do you feel it has the potential to measure up to the standards of say, Team Fortress 2?

A simple yes or no will do.
