Halo 3 Beta: May 16th - June 7th

This is what I don't understand, I thought it was a joke, and kinda funny, so I wasn't gonna say anything.

Hm... I dunno. Those beach shots don't look particularly different in the low quality comparisons. The lighting is different, but it doesn't look necessarily better. The textures on the sand actually look more detailed in the Halo 2 side. The close-up of the warhog has very little different being shown besides the viewscreen on the sniper rifle.

The interior building shots have better geometry and the lighting is better contrasted there. That's a step-up, but of course, it's a moot comparison for a map that was never meant to be shown...

So Bungie agrees with all those (including myself) who are underwhelmed. Good for them and I'm looking foreward to their first official showing of this game.

Dear God, Give the man some slack... If someone told me that the screens where from halo 3 beta build on xbox 1 I wouldn't argue.

Me neither, but at least Bungie will have an easy play when they release Halo 3 and it looks miles better than the leaked beta. Cunning PR! ;-)

I think many of us on here (including me) respect you and your work but expect better from you in context to what you've said in this thread. The differences in the shots are clear, even though Halo 3 in its BETA version doesn't look out of this world. I would imagine, being a developer, you could appreciate that but then again how much Halo do you play? Most Halo fans can tell the difference off the bat.

Halo fanatics can tell the difference right away because they can spot on the few design tweaks easier. Their eyes are more accastomed to how Halo2 looks. The visual quality difference depicted in the comparison screens though is irrelevant to that. People who arent that dedicated to Halo2 or people who have extremely low experience with Halo2 can not spot which is which as easilly and its not their fault. And its not nAo's fault either. It could have been a whole different story if the screenshots were of better quality and the beta was much better looking. It would have been easier that way for evryone to spot which is which

And lets face it the comparison screenshots are very bad captures. Quick glances on the screenshots arent enough for me to tell me which is which either unless I look more closely.

It doesn't take much effort to notice that the lightning, shadows and detail is better on the right side of the ss. A dev should be able to notice this quite easily. None of them look anything special but one is HALO2 and the other HALO3 and thus it should be abovious which one has the most detail. Granted the HALO3 shots are leaked and of blurry but still it is obvious.

Well the majority of pics are harder to tell. The images you posted are easier to spot on which is which. The first one doesnt compare the same place though. And they are still of very bad quality.

Well he is a developer. And an unbiased one. And we know that. Yet that's what he said. Are you suggesting that he deliberately lied or trolled? If thats what he said he saw, then thats how he actually realizes it. Lets give him a brake. I think we are overeacting with him.

Perhaps he was too busy on heavenly sword's development for a long time and forgot how it looked and playied

I think Halo 3 is already gorgeous..even before all these alledged coming improvements and the fact I'm sure single player campaign will look better.

Halo 3 isn't Gears..it has nearly unlimited draw distance, tons of very clean geometry and dozens of enemies on screen.

Thanks, I'm a little cautious over Bungie/MS announcements

My guess is events where people can play the beta. I doubt it's much more than that, we know Bungie will not release anything on the storyline and the 1080p thing just seems ridiculous (at least to me).

But I'll be waiting and watching on May 11.
