First Killzone screenshot/details? So says USAToday..

How do people rate the animation/ragdoll physics? From what I seen looks like the best game I have seen for reacting to bullets (at least in a cinimatic sense). Some of the scenes (especally the animation of the head exploding) remindes me of soldier of fortune except next gen :)!

The animations/ragdoll is excellent and the only other game that has similar animations/ragdoll that comes close is FEAR (atleast as the only game I can come up with now!).

Don't forget Resistance, pretty sweet ragdoll in there.

Bodies were a bit too rigid right after death in Resistance (example, try meleeing a dead body). I wonder if Killzone will have a nice weighty feel, without the ridiculous rag doll flexibility, with its dead bodies. The current explosion animations for the characters is promising in that regard.

EDIT

Err... not that dead bodies should played with after death... Or that that's an important part of a game. But still, it adds to the overall feel.

It is very good, even unrivaled perhaps (certainly better than anything graphically close). But I didn't see people loosing balance when shut on leg, or dropping weapon, etc. Maybe Haze does those, not sure.

In any case they are are long overdue.

I agree that the ragdolls look very good here (I LOVE the close up death scene from the original pic with the blood spurt) but to say it's long overdue or doesn't compare tells me you have not played a lot of games this gen on other machines (without getting into comparisons). ;)

Yes, the Resistance enemies react to hits in different body parts. For example, you can see flinging tubes (with gas leaks) on a Chimera when your bullets slice through them. They will also crawl back up in agony after a non fatal fall/blow. Finally, the bodies may interact and get trapped in places after an explosion. The other day I saw a Chimera hanged with one hand from the door (like horror movies) in a team deathmatch.

EDIT: w.r.t. Chimera's respiratory/ventilation tubes, you can in fact take them out one by one with a sniper rifle (or any weapon). There is a medal/achievement/trophy for this.

like what? shooting gun making the carrier cast a shadow to the environment behind him?

i saw a picture with that working.
Also from the lightning guns

Uh, that would be the direct lighting.

It might help to gather up everything we know about what Killzone is doing to get a better idea of what to look for. (i.e., link me to the summation of information, please)

If you are replying to me, please tell me which game has realistic after-shot animation?

i wonder how much better the textures would b when they eventually implement the streamingtech, im thinking on the line of Lair maybe?

I played around with them also. :D It's better than you think actually. I've butted some of them that were on a metal object or hanging on a railing, and sometimes they would slip down. Really awesome. It's really quite convincing.

Speaking of that, my buddy and I were playing co-op GoW and the bodies were like weightless sacks. The big boom guys that look like they weigh a ton were easy to kick around when you walked on them. How did that make it through play testing?

No no I have a good PC and played fear and half life 2. While there are ragdolls and you can see that they react to where you shoot them. I can't remember ever seeing the level of animation that KZ 2 seems to portray especally not juddering in diffrent places on bullet impact. What really stands out as well is that the shadow of the guy in one sceen is exactly following the flayling of the arms to!

Not sure if it was posted here, but as some of you may have noticed, on the streams yesterday during the KZ2 demo, G4 et al were just showing a montage of clips from one screen, while others were showing the game actually being played live..so we missed most of that live stuff. But there's a youtube clip up now with the live demonstration:

Awful quality, but you get the idea. Hopefully someone will have a better vid of that at some point.. (?)

Does your Killzone2 trailer hitch a tiny bit in the intro cloud sequence on your PS3? It does on mine for some reason...

MGS4 trailer looks great but the frame rate could have been a little better. Same for the new Lair one, it looked amazing in 1080p but the frame rate was still iffy at times.

Yes... not much but it does

This bit?

Though there were a few pauses for loading at certain spots, Guerilla says that it'll have its streaming tech implemented by ship time and that you won't see any loads mid-level. When you see just how much stuff is here, you'll understand why this may not be an easy task.

I don't think that's the same as them still needing to implement texture streaming..but general streaming to improve load times. You can see it in that live game demo that the game occasionally pauses very momentarily while the game loads more stuff..this is a bit different than needing to implement texturing streaming, and expecting a quality increase from a result of that. I'm sure things can and will improve, it is still some ways off, but not necessarily because of this.
