Dragon's Dogma [multi]

Any PS3 user interested in renting my Pawn? And what are your PSN nicknames and names of the Pawns.

I have a sweet Lvl. 40 sorceress for hire. Name's Natalia. She casts fire and dark affinity spells on your weapons, and attacks with lightning and giant maelstroms (which can be a bit disorienting but looks fucking badass) She's a guardian and enchantress first and foremost.

You can also search by PSN nicknames, and in my case that would be Sigistauffen.

I've send you a friends request.

If anyone wants to rent my pawn, my PSN name is cornsnake, and my pawn is called Brunhilde. She is currently a Warrior at level 27, if I remember correctly. Her greatsword makes her attacks a bit slow, but it does a lot of damage if it hits. She'll also hold down enemies for easy kills. I'm not sure if this also carries over, but I've give her a lamp she immediately uses if it gets dark, and a pickaxe for mining ore.

Brunhilde certainly seems like a warrior's name. It wouldn't suit a mage. Maybe that's my American stereotype kicking in though.

It's the name of a Valkyrie. I was hoping the new God of War was going with Norse mythology. But after finding out it didn't I decided to go with a Viking theme for my Dragon's Dogma characters. Although I still need to find some more appropriate clothing for her. But that shouldn't be a problem going by what I've seen other Pawns wearing.

The kind of character you create has some effect on their abilities in game. My arisen was going to be a Strider, so I've made her lightweight and slim, making her fast. For Brunhilde I've gone in the opposite direction. She's a big girl. That allows her to carry a lot more stuff around then my arisen can, which she need because the weapons and armour weigh a lot more for her vocation. I really like the way she looks because I've yet to another pawn that looks even remotely like her, making her easily stand out on the battlefield compared to the vast majority of pawns that have a similar build as my arisen.

This is the first Japanese developed RPG I've played. Is it common for them to have a rock music intro which seems completely out of place for a fantasy setting? Fortunately the music doesn't play once the game loads.

It's not all that uncommon really. Japan seems to be madly in love with cheesy rock music (I actually wished the game's presentation was slightly more Japanese in general.) Personally, I thought the rock theme song fell into the so bad it's good category.

ha, my wife and I torture each other with terrible Dynasty Warriors songs every time. RPGs are usually a lot less guitar wankery, but it happens...

Found a new Ogre killing strategy when I was randomly ambushed by 2 of them. First light yourself on fire, then let them grab you and let them eat you. That'll cause their heads to catch fire and kill them. You might want to heal yourself afterwards.

I'm still loving this game. It just keeps throwing so much crazy stuff at you.

I ran across the Ogre under the pawns guild today. I barely made a dent in the thing with multiple deaths until it somehow ran over the edge and died. I wish I'd have remembered that tip prior to discovering it on my own. I tried climbing and yep it flipped on its back and crushed me. I was warned.

I never would have thought of catching myself on fire as a tactic and didn't know the Ogre could eat me.

At first I thought the pawns were some weird idea to add a social element to the game, but it's actually a clever idea. Though it's weird the 2nd and 3rd pawns don't increase in level. I guess they're encouraging players to use a bunch of different pawns.

One really strange thing is I changed my main pawn from a fighter to a warrior and he couldn't use his sword and shield anymore. What? I couldn't afford to buy a weapon he could use so I had to downgrade to a fighter again.

I am loving the magick archer for my main character.

There is a skill for the Magic Archer that puts yourself on fire. The fire will damage your health of course. It's a high rank, 8 or 9, Magic Archer skill. I also like the Magic Archer skill that makes arrows ricochet off walls. Perfect for fighting mobs in dungeons.

Not all vocations share the same weapons. But the ones that do let carry over the weapon skills. The hybrid vocations have the most choice when it comes to weapons. The pawns sadly can't be hybrid vocations.

My Warrior pawn has maxed out her vocation rank, but I'm not sure which vocation I want to give her next. She isn't suited to magic because none of her previous vocations increased her magic stats, she's also a bit too slow to make a good Strider. Ranger might be better if that indeed does have better ranged attacks. It might be a good combo if I go with Assassin for my Arisen next.

There is some crazy stuff going on with the story. I'm now taking orders from
the duke.
In one of the side missions that just became available I had to go to
the duchess.
Anyway,
I get caught by the duke, and I'm sent to prison. The duke was killing the duchess or something. I escape prison and go back the castle. And no-one is acting like anything happened. But maybe they are trying to hide the fact that there is something wrong with the duke.
So I'm not sure what's going on, but it is getting interesting. I'm curious to see how the game will respond to some of the choices I've made.

Switched vocation again, this time to Assassin. I'm already missing the Magic Archer. Not all of it's weapon skills carried over, despite requiring the same weapon. No more setting myself on fire for now. With my favourite dagger skills not available I decided to try the sword and shield combo instead. Now I just need increase my vocation rank to get some better skills again.

I went to do some side questing instead of the story missions. Even that turned out far more interesting then I expected. Found another side quest hidden away, and a very cool boss battle. Honestly the bosses that just randomly appear in the world are far better than most games boss battles.

Of all the vocations, Assassin has been the most entertaining for me so far. It's just a much more versatile class than any other. Ranger is pretty cool as well. You're an absolute dps monster as ranger.
What vocations did you try out before? If you went with mostly magic classes before, your assassin might be a little too weak because your lack of strength and stamina.

My Arisen. Strider > Magic Archer > Assassin. She has a high amount of stamina, and is reasonably strong. It's just the higher rank vocation skills for Assassin I currently lack. That and I haven't really found any better weapons for the longest time. The sword I'm using does ice damage, but not a lot of enemies are weak to it in the area I'm currently in.

I want to go through all of the melee vocations first. See how many skills I can combine in the same character. The regeneration augment of the Magic Archer I'm still using as an Assassin.

I'm doing the same for my Pawn. Fighter > Warrior > Ranger. She is doing very well a Ranger. It's nice that I'm no longer the only one climbing on bosses.

Your pawn has proven very useful btw. That meteor spell she has is awesome. It can take off an entire health bar from a boss just casting it once. She should have a ton of Rift Crystals when I return her.

At least she's used that bloody spell on something worthwhile then. In my game she has a tendency to execute the last goblin left standing with it. Awesome in a cracking nuts with a sledgehammer kinda way, but also pretty stupid. She's casting tornadoes now, though. I think I'll stick with her being a sorcerer for the time being. At this point she'd make for a shitty strength based class.

Cornsnake, my main character and pawn are on the same path as yours. I went strider -> magick archer and my pawn fighter -> warrior.

Is there a way to try a new vocation to see if I like it without using "money"? Since it autosaves I can't rely on reverting to an old save. The powers I use the most are six shot and a multishot that rains arrows from above. I don't remember it's name.

It would also be nice if I could change skills when away from town so I could switch to the flame arrow at night and ricochet indoors.

You can sleep at the inn before changing vocations. Inns basically act as hard check point saves. If you open the start menu and choose the option to revert back to the last check point, you'll wake up at the inn again. Not where the game made the last auto-save.

She does that sometimes. She also commented how I shouldn't just enter people's houses like that. I guess she has never played RPG's before. Maybe I should return her and immediatly hire her again. I'm pretty close to her level now (level 44), and I haven't seen that tornado spell.

There is a way. The game actually keeps 2 separate saves. A checkpoint save it does when leaving town, or when you save manually. And a more permanent save it does whenever you sleep at an inn. So you can just sleep at the inn, then try different vocations, and if you don't like it return to your permanent save. Once you unlock a vocation you can always get back to it free of charge.

Edit:  Beaten.
