30 4k for me but little dissappointed they reduced hero lightning comparing to reveal trailer as I loved the effect, should be as an option

I can't do 30. So used to 120+. 60 is actually hard for me to play now. There's so much animation in the game, and animation of the environment that I can't see myself not wanting to crank the fps as much as possible.

I will go for performance mode from the get go, the hit in visual settings doesnt seem huge in the DF analysis. Framerate is also a setting in many ways, more detail is displayed onscreen.

for me 120 is barely noticable diff vs 60, yeah I would prefer 60 but playing very close to 55 inch and 4k vs 1800cb is quite a diff edit btw when insomniac brought 40fps mode I hoped it will be future standard at least in sony first party tiles, sad is not a case

60 to 120fps is akin going from 30 to 60. Not just in gaming but phones aswell (new iphone pro's have 120hz). 60fps is the sweet spot now for balance between fidelity and performance, and definitely a huge improvement over 30 which is unplayable if your used to 60. DF didnt really dive into what settings where altered for the performance mode, other than a surfacing analysis on that, which would have been intresting.

I'm just glad console games this generation are offering more resolutions/performance options for gamers. And games like Forza Horizon 5 and Horizon Forbidden West really do shine [more] in their respective 30fps quality modes.

Great video! Really impressive game. I still wish it wasn't cross gen -- I wonder what techniques they would have used for GI, detailed shadows, etc, if they could overhaul the whole engine.

Complementing, not a whole replacement. PS5 still has vram. Besides wouldnt want ddr3 speeds (sustained) ddr4 (peak burst) coupled with even higher latency to fully replace any ram.

As a complete replacement no. But its all virtual memory so the performance and capability of your memory further down the hierarchy dictates the size of the memory further up.

Seems that its the other way around now. They have custom AMD cpu’s and gpu’s. They basically went to amd and customized some of what amd had to offer in the pc space (rdna1/2, zen2, pcie4.0, standard gddr6 etc). In some cases cut down even (halved cache, clocks, stripping of IC),

If they were at the forefront, they wouldnt be behind in RT and ML reconstruction hw tech.
Even the ssd, if DS/RTX io is anything to go by, using a part of gpu compute to accelerate nvme 4/5 io seems more flexible/expsndeble than a fixed function controller.

Being at the forefront doesn't require you leading every aspect of hardware design and features.

Yes, they use the latest and greatest of general archs from AMD but they aren't run of mill PC hardware found commonly throughout the market. What other apus are more advanced and more performant than ones that in the XSX and PS5? Would you describe those other SOCs as common non-cutting edge designs? Unified main memory composed of GDDR6. MS even sports a uneven design with 10+6 config. Both employ custom ASICs used manage the decompression of large amounts of streaming data. You can make the argument that RTX io and AMD's version are solutions born from consoles. MS's Pluton security chip just debut on PCs last month and its a product born from the xbox and azure.

Yes, the underlying core archs may be described as common, the SOC designs are not especially for general electronic consumer products.

The amount of geometry is actually very impressive. Rocks and most surfaces are full of tiny details. Huge improvement over the first game.
Indeed.

yeah I think its still legaly for df to have own opinion vs eurogamer

Absolutely. I will have to play the game myself to see if its as bad as the EG review points it out to be. The original HZD didnt get alot of praise either from that same review site (EG), but i liked the game both gameplay wise and visually.

It's a great looking PC game (gen GCN) ported on PS5.

More likely PS4 game. Again, its comments like these from this user that dont really help does it? Dont attack eachothers favourite platform and you wont see any backfiring somewhere else either.

APU's? Perhaps not. Things like RDNA2, Zen2, GDDR6, PCIE4 nvme and even software (DX/vulkan for xbox) are pc standards, there's nothing really exotic, not all that much custom either. The mentioned arch's/components got some customizations. Its nothing like the PS2 and PS3 days anymore (or X360). And for the better.
I either dont think these RTX IO solutions are from consoles, but PC version equalivants, that fit better in the pc space.

From what i have seen in the DF video, its the most impressive PS5 game so far, besting Rift Apart quite comfortably. Cross-gen is holding back and scaling doesnt work they said, lol. Hats of to the Dutch ;)
