Huge february for Hogwarts Legacy and PS5 in UK. Xbox Series are ok and though start of the year for Switch.

Crazy

Meanwhile, PS5 sales increase further in February

February console sales are up 65% over the same month last year, and up 14% over January, to 143,000 hardware units sold (GfK panel data, not upweighted).

PS5 sales are up 316% over the same period the year before, and up 27% over January. Year-to-date, PS5 hardware is up 180% over the first two months of 2022. The PS5 was severely impacted at the beginning of last year due to stock shortages.

The Xbox Series S and X platforms saw sales increase 21% in February compared with January, and are 15% up over February last year. Year-to-date, the platform's sales are down slightly by 5.3%.
It's a tough start to the year for Nintendo Switch. Sales for February are down 15% compared with January, and down 29% over this time last year. Switch is now approaching its sixth anniversary, so it isn't a surprise to see the machine slowdown. Last year also saw the notable release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus towards the end of January. Nintendo is hoping to bolster hardware sales in the second quarter of the year, with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, plus tie-in activity with the Super Mario Bros movie.

Square Enix has released the Outline of Results Briefing held on February 3, 2023 [PDF], which reveals some insight on the publisher's takeaways regarding its recent slate of game releases.

Net sales declined YoY in the HD Games sub-segment, partly because the release of major titles a year earlier had created a challenging YoY hurdle, but also because many of the new small and mid-sized titles we launched this year did not perform as well as we had expected.

Reviews of “FORSPOKEN,” which we released on January 24, 2023, have been challenging. However, the game has also received positive feedback on its action features, including its parkour and combat capabilities, so it has yielded results that will lead to improvement of our development capabilities of other games in the future. That said, its sales have been lackluster, and while the performance of new titles with February and March release dates will be the ultimate determinant, we see considerable downside risk to our FY2023/3 earnings.

Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, maybe Tekken and Street Fighter although their popularity isn't as great as it was, historically Sonic has to be mentioned. For much more recent titles Monster Hunter has been huge from what I've seen, World and Rise (plus xpacs) have sold incredibly well. *Looking this up combined Monster Hunter's sold around 45m total compared to Street Fighter's 47m total for the lifetime of the entire series as of March 2022. Roughly 20m for MH:World, 10m for Iceborne (xpac), 11m for MH Rise, 4m for Sunbreak (xpac), extremely good and I'm surprised SF has "only" sold that much, I would've expected more given the popularity of SF2/incarnations and 5

More internet presence rather than total sales are FromSoftware's Souls games if we can group them all under the same umbrella. So Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro have punched above their sales in terms of visibility and then Elden Ring sold 20m+ copies which makes it by far the best selling. Compared to DS3 10m, DS1 and Sekiro circa 5m, DS2 4m, Bloodborne 2m.

Best February in US for a Playstation console. The best month was PS2 before 533k in february 2005.

Nice, Elden Ring still in the top 10. Yakuza game (Like a Dragon: Ishin) in the top 10.

Company of Heroes 3 (an RTS) in the top 20. Hopefully we see a resurgence in the RTS genre.

Also, Minecraft climbed 3 spots. :p Someday it's going to drop out of the rankings, this is not the day. :p

SB
