Though true, that graph predates release to general retailers, and PSVR2 was only being bought direct from Sony at that point. We'll have to see what impact general retailer availability makes.

Interesting I hadn't heard about that. Over here it was selling at normal retailers on day1 and those took preorders as well. Apparently like you said in some countries Sony sold it directly at first. Seems like that method wasn't done in very many countries (US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg) The first four are very large markets, but I'm uncertain whether the method really limited the sales that much? The early adopters probably could navigate to the right place?

Switch reclaims top spot from PlayStation as hardware jumps 40%

Nintendo Switch overtook PS5 in May to become Europe's No.1 console once again, driven by the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Switch sales across Europe are up over 39% compared with May last year. PS5 had to settle for No.2, but it remains a strong force across Europe, and sales for PS5 are up 81% compared with May 2022.

Xbox Series S and X are in third position, with sales down 16% over May last year.

Hopefully, Microsoft's upcoming 'Xbox Games Showcase' will bring a host of quality games (besides the usual suspects) on improving Xbox hardware and subscription sales. Nintendo, is doing excellent as usual, the longevity of their tent-pole titles is like no other when it comes to maintaining a loyal fanbase and strong system sales (with a few exceptions of course). Sony, is trucking along as usual, nothing really hurting PS5 sales momentum at the moment. Their recent gaming showcase, however, was underwhelming... almost borderline sh**.

It was not borderline, it was bad staying polite. If they had a gaming showcase in 2022, it would have been meh but nearly two years without showcase and a very bad show. Xbox showcase will probably save may/june showcase. Sony probably have another show later this year before Spiderman 2 release and rumored PS5 with optionnal Blu ray disc.

So, with that large of a rise in sales of NSW due to the new Zelda game, it's now far more likely, IMO, that NSW will at some point surpass PS and DS lifetime sales. It's ~32 million behind PS2 and ~29 million behind DS. If this TOTK sells in a similar fashion to BOTW, it's likely to continue to sell well for multiple years and likely to continue to sell hardware for multiple holiday seasons (potentially even after a new Nintendo console is releases if 3DS and DS sales after their successors were released is anything to go by).

As such, it was interesting to note that:
  • NSW has already outsold lifetime sales of PS2 in Japan.
  • NSW is close to outselling lifetime sales of DS in Japan.
  • The only consoles that have sold better than NSW in Japan is the DS and GB.
    • However, it has outsold both when launch aligned as DS and GB needed far more time to reach their final lifetime sales number.
Just some interesting trivia for Japan.

SB

Yes, but then once they've bought, general purchasing would start to tail off, which I think the graph illustrates. General availability in all markets may have seen the same trajectory as PSVR rather than the plateauing.

Personally I would put the first 6 weeks into early adopter category. I think the demand for it has been quite soft, but yeah we need more time and data to actually know anything concrete. I want VR to improve and take off, but I don't hold much hope for this one going forward.

It’s been a while since we last got an update on Skyrim’s sales performance, with prior figures revealing that the game had sold 30 million copies as of 2016. While it has been a long time since then, it is impressive nonetheless to see the game double its sales so many years after its initial release.

With 60 million copies sold, Skyrim is now the 7th best-selling video game of all time, sandwiched between the OG Super Mario Bros. (58 million copies) and Mario Kart 8 + Deluxe (62.25 million). With The Elder Scrolls 6 nowhere in sight, it will be interesting to see just how many copies Skyrim will have sold by the time its sequel is finally released.

Series X stock being available after the showcase seems to have helped sales:

We have to believe that the presentation held last night convinced many people to make the purchase. Not for the new Xbox Series S, but for the Xbox Series X, which rose to the top of Amazon sales by taking first place, with an increase of 1,335%, just that .

Xbox Series X has the top selling SKU on GameStop for the first time all year

Can people stop pretending Xbox releasing good games and having a good line up won't allow them to compete now

We don't do analysis of trends on a single point. That was 1 day after a major announcement. Today's gamestop is the top 3 skus are all playstation and XSX is back to forth. With FF16 bundle being the top sku.
