Which shows XBOs is not reduced as much and isn't selling as well already...unless I'm missing something?

Both base units, PS4 and One S are hitting $200. Did they not have the same starting prices?

It's bizzare...it's like Sony is throwing away money - they didn't need to drop the price so low and pack in Spiderman.
It's also tricky (well.. impossible) to determine a what if.. outcome but they could have been worse off if it wasn't so appealing. Do you want the competition's package to look more appealing? Hell, no :nope:

From what i can gather, PS4 + Spiderman is $200 whilst XBOs is $230

No. XBox One S is $200 as well. (Discounted from $300 MSRP).

Xbox One S Minecraft Creators Bundle: Controller ,Minecraft, Minecraft Starter Pack download, Minecraft Creators Pack download, 1,000 Minecoins,1-month Xbox Game Pass trial, 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial – $100 off – (MS listed $299)

From the NPD October 2018 results at ERA:

Red Dead Redemption 2 sales 3x the original: With just nine days of reported sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the second best-selling game of October 2018 and is now also the second best-selling game year to date. Red Dead Redemption 2 launch month sales more than tripled those of the previous title in the series, Red Dead Redemption, which launched May 2010.

Battlefield V struggles as Black Friday transforms UK Charts

Black Friday is a big sales period for hardware, and you'll often find exclusive games (particularly those bundled with the consoles) tend to perform strongly during the weekend. According to retailers talking to Gamesindustry.biz, more than 300,000 consoles were sold over Black Friday. It was pretty close between all three formats, but we understand that PS4 was the best-selling machine, narrowly ahead of Xbox One, which was narrowly ahead of Nintendo Switch. Over Black Friday, PS4 consoles were being sold at just over £220 (with bundles featuring FIFA 19 or Red Dead Redemption 2), Xbox One was on sale for as low as £170 with a game (including Forza Horizon 4, Minecraft or Battlefield V), while Nintendo Switch saw its first real price drop, falling by around £20 in price overall.

As a result, Xbox One exclusives such as Forza Horizon 4 (No.5), Minecraft Master Edition (No.33) and Forza Motorsport 7 (No.34) all shot up the charts, with sales rising 535 per cent, 1768 per cent and 573 per cent respectively.

PS4 exclusives Spider-Man (No.6), God of War (No.21) and Detroit: Become Human (No.35), saw sales rise 634 per cent, 1283 per cent and 826 per cent respectively.

Glad to see Detroit: Become Human and Forza Horizon 4 doing well.

Switch Black Friday & Cyber Monday Performance

EDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo Switch set two new records from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday: It became the best-selling Nintendo console in U.S. history for that five-day period, surpassing even Wii system sales. Nintendo Switch also had its best-selling week ever in the United States. In fact, according to Adobe Analytics, Nintendo Switch was among the most-purchased items online on Thanksgiving Day and the overall top-selling video game product online for the Black Friday-Cyber Monday time period.

Glad to see Switch is doing good. Hopefully, Sony & Microsoft will release their respective BF/CM console performance PR soon.

Switch is the hot videogame console right now. I have a niece and a nephew who are both asking, and both are getting, a Switch for Christmas. PS4 and X1 have been around since 2013, five years on the market. That is a whole lot of people who have enjoyed those consoles for for years now, but are also intrigued by what Switch has to offer. I would venture to guess that a massive percentage of Switch gamers also own a PS4 or X1. Switch isnt a great replacement for those consoles, but it certainly is a fantastic addition to those consoles.

https://wccftech.com/sony-exec-ps4-pro-necessary-evolution/

PS4 Pro sales ratio remains relatively stable at 20% LTD, and 40% of them were upgraders. So on average 8% of unit sales have been uppgraders since nov 2016. It also means they sell 4M pros per year.
Quote in reference.
The mid-lifecycle upgrade of PlayStation 4 to PS4 Pro is a good example of necessary evolution. In enabling the community to upgrade mid-lifecycle it has allowed our most engaged players an even more immersive experience that compliments the latest advancements in TV technology.

We’ve found that around one in five PlayStation 4s sold has been a PS4 Pro since it launched and around 40 percent of these have been from existing players upgrading so it’s definitely having a positive impact on the industry as well as on our players.

Hmm... interesting wording on necessary evolution.

Yeah the CTO said practically the same thing in 2014 or 2015. Then the Pro was announced. Apparently the ease of specs upgrade from x86 was the change that made this a taste of things to come.

I guess next gen is sure to get a mid-gen too...

Necessary evolution of a generation also suggests to me that BC is going to be considered necessary too. Sony aren't going to want a clean reset for all their fanbase with extensive libraries, and PS4 Pro shows PS4 owners are happy to have their PS4 games improved (just not willing to pay for it medgen, but happy for it next-gen). Given no disruptive tech on the horizon warranting a completely architecture break, at this point I think BC is a shoe-in for PS5.

Probability is looking real good that it will be there. It can be debated as to when it will arrive (at launch or after), but i'm fairly confident that it will arrive.

Damn, look at all those FIFAs.

And all those Minecraft numbers too.

Some numbers reverse engineered from trophy info:

http://gamstat.com/

Interesting, only 1 of the top 10 games is only single player. GTA V is mainly a multiplayer game now. Probably the same for Minecraft.

In the top 20, 2 more single player only games added, and one of them might only be there because the free 1st episode is included in the those numbers.

Basically, the most popular games on PS4 from a player perspective (not sales) appear to be multiplayer games. Not surprising as they keep the players engaged.

I imagine this is the effect of used games and loaned games? Hence why it is divergent from the PS4 top games sold? If so, this kind of indicates that the used/loaned game market is much larger for multiplayer games than for single player games.

However, I have to question its relevance if God of War (2018) isn't even in the list? You would think that would be one of the first games they'd try to scrape trophy data for. Detroit from a similar release time frame is in the list after all, so it's not a release timing issue, and RDR2 is already in the list. COD: Ghosts in there, but the more popular COD: Infinite Warfare isn't?

Regards,
SB

I don't think they've added/scrapped the data for all the games? I didn't see notable titles that one would expect to show up.

From the How Calculated: http://gamstat.com/how/

Sony recently launched "My PS4 Life" allowing players to share some stats of their gaming experience.

Besides other numbers, they also disclose the exact number of players who received some trophy in some game. Combined with the % of people who obtained the trophy (this data is available for every game on the PlayStation website), we can estimate the total number of players in this game.

Note: the number of players who have earned the trophy is not updated online, Sony probably took it somewhere between 20 November and 4 December. So it won't say much about recently released games.
