Btw MS doesn't give any sales numbers. But they have 50 million paying live customers. Let's say about 10 million are still on Xbox 360. That leaves about 40 million for Xbox One. Xbox One S came it a few months of free Xbox Live, so those people are not paying (yet). 5 Million Xbox One S consoles seem fair.
That would put the total number around 45Million Xbox One family owners. PS4 should be at 50 Million.
I think MS did a pretty good job actually, they almost closed the gap.
Yeah.... no.

Selling where? It's massively outsold everywhere except NA and UK. Do you believe the install base is 30+ million in NA? How is that possible when PS4 routinely outsells it in NPD results?

That seems like a wildy implausible number, so your X360 number is probably way low.

How many times have we been through this. Xbox 360 EXACTLY had a 2:1 split. The burden of proof IMO is on anyone to prove it's lower than that for Xbox One. Good luck since there isn't any.

Do you really think there is a kind of physical rule like E=mc2 ? :-?

You can't make any assumption based on this information.

It's like taking the Wii sales to predict the Switch's success...

No. He's using an empirically observed NA:RoW sales ratio for 360. There's nothing particularly wrong with that method as it had a pretty good correlation I think. However, the problem I see is the same you see, that Rangers is applying that same correlation to a different product. He says the burden of proof lies with those wanting to show XB1 doesn't have the same ratio. I don't see how that's logical - neither side can really prove their position, so it certainly doesn't stand as 'true until otherwise disproven'.

In fact I'll go a step further and say the burden of proof lies with him because what little we've heard about Europe, XB1 is being vastly outsold. If the ratios of XB : PS are evidently different in these locations to last gen, the ratio of NA:RoW for XB1 can't match the 2:1 for XB360.

Rangers; the Tomb Raider split is actually sold-in, not sold-through. This only means that retailers ordered double the number of Xbox One versions.
That could imply a lot of things, but looking around most stores, it just means that retailers have half the space of Xbox One dedicated to Xbox 360

I always like to post these Ubisoft Geographical and console breakdowns. Just released for Oct-Dec 2016 quarter (Ubi's Q3 2016/17)

PS4 is approaching a little less than 2:1 over XBO now. Closer to the likely worldwide hardware split. This is for the calendar 4th Q too, so the heaviest volume.

In fact PS4 46-26 is 1.77:1 vs XBO. If you take a optmistic view of Xbo shipments as I do, that's basically exactly the WW shipped hardware split (57:32)=1.78

But those numbers are highly variable : http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/10/ubisoft-sales-fall-ps4-its-most-popular-platform

Not to mention that their report is even less accurate for the japanese market. There are more than 4 millions of PS4 sold in Japan according to the most recent estimates.

That's why you look at the 9 month number not the quarterly number. That removes seasonal variability as well as smoothing out disparate releases of titles by platform. Even better is to wait for the FY report so you can see a report for a full year's worth of sales.

Sure, but then you have a slightly lower ratio than 1.7:1 which further proves that those figures are a rough estimate of total sales.

Wasn't an assasin creed game included with a lot of xb1's sold, or am I misremembering. You could also post capcom's breakdown for the last year

Sony 3.8 Million
MS 0.65 Million

which gives a far higher ratio than 2:1, of ~5.8 : 1

True its prolly more japanese orientated company, but we are talking about worldwide sales aren't we

No one should read anything into this. I'm only making this post because I found this both amusing and interesting.

On Amazon's best sellers for 2017

The best selling console is the Nintendo Switch which sells out of pre-orders almost immediately anytime more pre-orders become available. The best selling game is The Legend of Zelda for Switch which is still available for pre-order..

What's amusing about that is that the console is ranked number 4 while the game is ranked number 3. Meaning, there's X number of people that are pre-ordering the game in hopes that they'll somehow manage to get a Nintendo Switch.

Just to add some perspective to the consumer hype that is going on for the Switch.

The highest ranked released game is the PS4 version of RE7 at rank 7.
The highest ranked released console is the PS4 at number 10.
The highest ranked pre-order for a non-Switch game is Horizon at rank 19.
The highest ranked Xbox console is ranked 44.

But as I said, do NOT read anything into this. This is all meaningless. We're not even 1.5 months into 2017.

I just found this confluence of sales rankings on Amazon amusing. :)

SB

LoZBoW is available on WiiU. On the Best Selling lists does Amazon distinguish the WiiU version from the Switch version?

EDIT: Yes. The WiiU version is listed at #8.

Ubisoft has had a few XB1 bundles over the years (R6 Siege, The Division, AC:U). PS4 has had one AFAIK (Far Cry).

Ubisoft titles are probably more popular in North America. And MS does non-official bundles all the time, allowing you to pick from a select group of titles that usually includes an Ubisoft title or two.

Capcom is more Japanese oriented. Both consoles have exclusives from Capcom.

Tl;dr, don't use software sales (revenue?) to judge hardware splits/sales.

Nah it's just a rough overall approximation obviously. But yeah, I do think it's almost certainly decently accurate as such. If you're not arsed that the ratio could be 1.8 or 2.2 at any given time. Rule of thumb nothing more.

Or they've already preordered the Switch from elsewhere. Or they're buying it as a present for someone who's going to get a Switch.
