First week sales comparison (UK).

QB ~28K
TR 36K (doesn't include XB360 sales)
Alan Wake ~36K
The Order 1886 ~40K

Are sales of new IPs (minus Tomb Raider being a new IP) generally low in the UK?

Compared to what? Multiplatform new IPs? New IP MP games? Openworld games? There are tons of factors to take into account. In the case of QB a good chunk of the first week sales are going to be digital given the pre-order promo (free Windows 10 version + Alan Wake + AW: American Nightmares).

New IPs in general...

As for "digital downloads" I'm not disputing those factors because we will never know for sure (the numbers). From a standalone sales points (physical disc), those games listed above are quite low.

Totally agree with you. This is most probably why Publishers are more & more afraid of launching new single player/non-open-world focused IPs this gen. The success of The Division somewhat validates their thinking.

I asked a local toy store manager for a sales breakdown and he said
PS4: 60% Xbox1: 20% Xbox360:10% PS3:4% Wii:5% WiiU:1%
Continent: Europe, Country: Netherlands

Told him it was reeeeeealy specific, but he said that it's the data they got from headquarters; the individual stores have the freedom to arrange the store how they want it, but they were guidelines. In the store though, the part on the wall for PS4 was barely bigger than all Xbox, while it should be twice as big. He said that arrangement was made during the 2010 store rebuild...

I wonder if the NL situation will be the same for NPD: PS4 outselling the Xbox group 2:1. Xbox had Quantum Break coming up, so maybe people were saving for the bundle?

Btw this is only 1 franchise ("Bart Smit") which is primarily for toys, though a large percentage of the stores is dedicated to games. Therefore I expected the Wii much higher..
Also: PS3 is rather expensive compared to 360 in the Netherlands. With Xbox you can use the basic model (external usb etc), but PS3 basic model only has 12GB and it gets really frustrating without one. Also Xbox has the Kinect which should still appeal to (people buying semi-expensive stuff for )children. The Netherlands has a lot of Wii's so the people still buying it is strange as well. Everyone should have them at this point :p
Sorry for the offtopic.

360 beating PS3 that bad in Netherlands? Weird. Since we usually think PS dominates EU totally.

3:1 isn't that bad a result for XBO again given what we hear.

Anyways, NPD today! Yay.

Some interesting sales data n the game "Shovel Knight" was posted on a blog. Not sure how much we can really learn, but.

http://gamasutra.com/blogs/DavidDAn..._One_Million_Copies_of_Shovel_Knight_Sold.php

Shovel Knight has sold 1.2 million units total! 200,000 of those units are physical retail sales

Before you save the graph above for your next platform vs platform discussion, there’s a few key items that are worth keeping in mind:

Our Sony and Microsoft versions did not come out until April 2015, 9 months after our initial release on PC and Nintendo systems. The Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Sony PS4 are also naturally higher in sales as they received full retail releases in October 2015. Every platform except Sony’s systems have gone on sale during some major holidays, but none of them have ever been sold for more than a 33% discount. Keeping our game at full price has been a major part of our strategy as we believe players will be more invested in the game and therefore hopefully, enjoy it more if it isn’t bought at a bargain bin price. Although Amazon Fire TV does not have enough sales to appear on the graph, it’s a bit tricky to measure because Shovel Knight was packed in with 50,000 consoles, and those sales are not accounted for in the graph. The Amazon Fire TV also released in September of 2015 – which is rather late when compared to everything else and a tall order to catch up to. Also of note, we have still not released the game in Asian territories. We plan to release in Japan in June on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U.

Small sample size that means jack really, but I'm interested at 7% for Canada. Fits with the "5-10%" I always use for Canada sales. So if for example PS4 has sold 12 million by NPD, it's probably sold another 600,000-1.2 milliion in Canada. Maybe 7% is a good estimate for Canada?

I suspect for a lot of games Wal mart's share is much higher. Amazon has a healthy share there too, but again I'm not sure how much to read into it.

NPD looks like PS4 another 90k up on XBO making it ~1.6M, be interesting to see how much QB helps April sales then the following month will be Uncharted 4 so expect a clear PS4 win.

for Amazon in April, QB is #8 and the XB1 isn't in the top 100. PS4 is #22.

QB looks good in the commercials but doesn't seem to be getting real high reviews.

But maybe it can steal some of the thunder from UC4?

Time for RotTR and QB to make their impression has passed. U4 will soon enter its final marketing push, and IMO it will sell better than both of them by a lot.

Unreal 4 is releasing soon?
