Xbox Showcase 2023 (June 11th)

Where are you 'hearing' that? :/

Series S is already supposed to basically be a large loss leader for Xbox, so dropping price another $70 seems pretty rough. A disc-less XSX could make some sense, but at $400 I think it really does require that Series S discount, or else the difference between a $300 Series S and $400 Series X makes the Series X a no-brainer choice.

I think it might make more sense for Series S to increase to 1TB storage as the new default spec at the same current price. Improves on a console that is still selling well, without having to take further drastic hits on margins for little benefit in sales. Storage is super cheap right now.
Hearing from ex colleagues.

The series S has already been on sale for $200 at woot and amazon last holiday so I don't think hitting a price point near that will be that hard for them. I heard $230-250 for the reduction. Right now its $300 vs $500 so if we see a $230 vs 400 its still a sizable gap and the series s gets very close to the magic number of $200.

As for the series S getting a storage upgrade that is possible. However I think they will try to use the cost of the storage cards to blunt some of the decrease in revenue.

Also what the series S and X cost in 2020 isn't what they cost in Fall of 2023.

The biggest problem for xbox is availability not price.
It's hard to even really gauge actual demand as XSX hardly in stock.
XSS still selling ok, and makes for really good sale prices when they happen.

This should be the year when there's also enough current gen exclusives to warrant people who hasn't bothered upgrading to start to consider it. XSS will be cheapest way to play the games.

If we're going purely by his rumor, then it's a 229 USD XBS-S versus a 399 USD discless XBS-X. If we're not going by his rumors then it's still a 299 USD XBS-S versus a 499 USD XBS-X. :p

No comment on whether his rumor will happen or not. I could certainly see them subsidizing further in order to try to expand the user base. 229 is starting to get close to impulse buy territory and/or almost no-brainer grandparents picking up something for the grandkids territory. Not sure it's worth it or not if they are choosing a large subsidy for it.

Regards,
SB
Well my implied point was that I dont expect this $400 Series X to begin with, as it would mean having to discount the Series S to a painful degree.

Series S is already selling well enough by most accounts. Maybe they're planning on surging production, but I think they always knew that demand was limited to begin with, especially with Xbox's continuing flagging reputation.

I mean, I'm all for it if they do discount it, these companies can all absorb the hit in the end, as they did in past generations, but I'd be surprised if they do to such a degree.

my guess is its in anticipation of a micron drop and redesign on the console.

This is a rumored leak.

Doesn't seem like a lot for an hour and a half show. So unless these are all getting like 10 minute long trailers/ game play footage I'd expect a lot of random developers talking about the games.

Lots of great sounding stuff in there outside of the obvious.

I think this fake list was "leaked" one or two weeks ago.
The poster later even confirmed it's fake

Nvm. It had 4 redacted titles last time.

I posted another one a few days ago. They are both likely fake but its always fun for the speculation and then to see if anything on it was right

This one seems more credible, but we'll know soon.

On the XSS price drop. It's possible, but more likely $249. Also, I don't think 1TB is necessary or coveted as much as forum posters think.

MS really has both options in terms of value. Either maintain the 299 price point but increase the storage, or drop the price to 249. At 1TB, Series S would have more storage than any model of PS5.

I think people tend to forget what the S actually is. It's not for the hardcore gamer. Better that it's a cheap gateway into the Xbox ecosystem than have extra drive space. Grandma doesn't care when she's buying for little Jimmy's birthday.

Ooooooooooooooooor
Keep the storage the same, decrease the price to the point of impulsive buying, and then sell an expansion card too.
Yea selling expansion cards with a premium to series s owners can mitigate some costs with the price decrease. I'd wager a lot of S owners would go after that $80 512 gig card

Looks like Persona 5 tactica is part of the show but got leaked. Will be day one on game pass xbox/windows platform

You dont need to be a 'hardcore' gamer to need storage space, though. Like, the kind of more 'average' gamer they're going after might play a lot of Madden/FIFA/Call of Duty or whatever, all of which can take up quite a lot of space.

Series S is for people who dont care about technical aspects, not people who dont like to play AAA games or whatever.

I stand by my point: It's more important to MS' strategy that the S is cheap than that the S has more storage.
Go even cheaper, go even smaller.

Put yourself into a price/size bracket that makes the console stand on its own away from the strong, dedicated large screen TV variant.

The problem with xss is that you only get around 300GB usable storage. That's like only 3-5 AAA games.

Even less when the games support huge save file, huge cache

If it truly get 512GB usable, it'll be good enough for many games
