Windows 10 [2014 - 2017]

I've got 3.67GB in the $Windows.~BT folder & my Windows Update history interestingly has several 'failed' status Upgrade to Windows 10 Home entries from last night.
My BT folder is 6.27GB (!) in total, but no sign of the Install.ESD file which is said by some to be the main installer... *shrug*

No sign of any failed updates, and the windows icon in the taskbar just opens the same window it always has. Still says my reservation is active though, which is a good sign I suppose! :D

Now all we have to do is load up with some popcorn and wait for all the horror stories of failed upgrades or unusable Win10 computers which are sure to start popping up on the web any time now. With so many people getting upgraded, there's going to be tons of terribad experiences, no doubt, and people being people won't wait to trumpet it out for all internet to hear! ;)

In my country it's already 29, but no sign of the update yet. I already make my reservation.
Anyway, I probably will install Windows 10 on the nearest weekend, since I don't want to risk wasting time to troubleshoot after going home from work. But I will definitely install it as soon as I can because hopefully the experience should be better than Win8.1 (which I already run multiple restore health on it).

Edit: btw, do you know if the simple file sharing is the same as Win8.1 or not? AFAIK, the Win8.1 file sharing is a bit different than on previous Windows, which is why some android apps than can access shared folder on previous Windows can't access that shared folder on Win8.1. The only android app that I've tested that can access Win8.1 shared folder is BS Player. Using older Windows (previously on WinXP), I can access shared folder with something like ES File Explorer, on Win8.1, I can't. If Win10 file sharing is the same as Win8.1, then I will definitely upgrade. If not, then I might hold a bit to try and find confirmation whether at least BS Player support Win10 file sharing since I often play video content from my PC to my phone.

Windows 10 installed, but I have a basic display driver... went to AMD's website and the 15.7 drivers are a tech preview... any word on when a regular release is coming?

@Infinisearch Hm, 15.7s should be WHQL and Win10 certified...?

They're also alledgedly on Windows Update, so hit that and see if they download for you?

Found some tricks that you can do to jumpstart the Win10 activation process, if MS hasn't gotten around to activating it for you yet. I tried it, but the windows update for Win10 Home edition failed to install so, no deal. Apparantly a reboot might fix it, I might try again later this evening. :p

I downloaded the ISO from MS with the download tool, did USB-installer with old Windows USB/DVD Download Tool and upgraded without issues.

hoom, for your problems, try deleting everything from "WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and then try updating again, you can also try launching "wuacult.exe /updatenow" from command prompt after that (run as admin)

Upgraded from Win8.1, I have "15.20-150715a-184226E" installed now according to CCC (installed automatically during upgrade apparently, they're WDDM 2.0)

There is a 15.200.1046.2 driver on Windows Update that's newer than 15.7 (which is 15.200.1046.0). It seems to be more stable as well.

edit: for GCN, don't know about others.

Just forced the Windows 10 download in Windows Update so we'll see how it goes.....

My ~BT folder balooned to nearly 6.5GB before it all stopped, but the install never actually kicked off. No nefarious things in the event logs or update history, so I'll see if it works itself out later today when I get home :)

Seems mostly ok, it's default, recommended, setting for the size of text, apps, and other items is 150%. I have a 32" 1080p HDTV/monitor. I'm holding off on installing the just released StartIsBack beta for Windows 10 as I want to give 10 a fair shot. The Windows Update icon in the Start Menu seems to be broken though I can access it from elsewhere. I don't see an option to view installed updates even though I initiated a couple.
I'm using the nVidia 353.62-desktop-win10-64bit-international.hf drivers that were linked at guru3d. Newer than the ones I saw when going to nVidia's page. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=401109

The install also hijacked some file associations, maybe it was implied when I clicked through the agreements during installation but I sort of looked and didn't see such. That's not a big hassle to correct. The Windows video player is pretty sleek. The music player was lol typical Microsoft as it launched other Windows and even wanted me to sign some sort of Xbox agreement ... I don't have a Xbox.

Edit: Under Settings/Updates and security, is where I can launch Windows Update. Under Advanced Options there is a link to check for installed updates.

How did you do this, please...? :)
open command prompt in "run as admin"-mode, then type wuauclt.exe /updatenow
If it doesn't work, delete everything in here: "WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and do the same again
Or then just download this the Media Creation Tool from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Create .ISO with it (it'll download win10 for it), burn it to DVD (or use Windows USB/DVD Download Tool to create USB-stick with it), open setup.exe from the DVD or USB

Doesn't seem to do anything.

Does this work as upgrade instead of a clean reinstall? Does it retain the installed system language?

Yeah it works as upgrade, you get to pick your language when making iso. Just remember to start the upgrade from Windows, not by booting to DVD or USB.

check your windows update from control panel after putting the command in

Ah. I think it's this that did the trick for me. I had done the "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" bit before and not gotten much of a reaction (an immediately failed attempt to install by windows update and then nothing more), cleared the Download folder as you suggested, did the same thing again - nothing - then did it AGAIN, but now with windows update open already and then it finally kicked in and started working...touch wood.

Thanks! :D

...Uh-oh by the way. It wants to download another 2.6GB, and I already have 5.5-something GB on-disk in what is supposed to be the Win10 install folder. Oh well. I have a 480GB system drive, it'll be fine.

As long as there's enough free space, too

I successfully upgraded my 2013 Dell Venue 8 Pro. It seemed to go perfectly well. I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to get the upgrade and to create a USB boot stick for clean install.

So yeah I also did a clean install because I like a fresh install and because it's a tablet and storage is at a premium. After the upgrade install I used ShowKeyPlus to get the Win 10 product key. Installing fresh is just like Win8 once you have the key.
