Windows 10 [2014 - 2017]

You need an actual windows 10 app to play streaming music...? Won't the win 8 client run under 10 as well, and if not, why? :)
Is the app required? No. Does it make things easier? Yes. Especially since my unified Microsoft login already knows my Pandora credentials from my phone, tablet and various laptops and desktops in the house. Ignoring credentials, it's also lighter weight than a browser tab.

Also, why are Windows 8 apps not available to Windows 10? I'm not sure. It may be as simple as a flag in the compiled app; if the app doesn't claim the compatibility bit for 10, it likely doesn't show up.

Not unlike apps for IOS or Android devices.

Veeerrry very strange! Windows has always been built on both forwards and backwards compatibility, it's the entire foundation of its success...! Is it a "metro"-style app? If yes, then I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't want to run, that metro shit is of the devil! :)

Yes, the app to which I refer is a metro-style app. And furthermore, no, it is not of the devil ;)

I presume they want to try to make sure apps on Windows 10 all behave nicely across phone, tablet/touch and desktop keyboard & mouse?

Though actually I thought I saw all Win 8 apps in the Win 10 store as normal when I tried the beta. Maybe confusing the regular and beta stores, which are separate?

Windows 10 is about to hit, Im not sure what to do.

A/ I have 8.1 on a HDD which I'm currently using every day
B/ I have installed 8.1 on a new SSD which I brought a few weeks ago, which I havent used

I will install win 10 on the SSD, now do I have to upgrade win8.1 there or can I just download win10 stick it on a USB stick and do a fresh install on to the SSD? i.e. I can delete the SSD's win 8.1?

ta zed

My understanding is that you'll have to upgrade your installation from windows 8.1 either by download or by using a created USB or DVD installer. Then after you've upgraded you can format and do a clean install.

I guess it will show up in the Windows app store ; new features aside (or new policies) I compare it to the Windows 8.0 to 8.1 upgrade

Yes, that's the general idea I've seen as well. Not sure why we have to upgrade first before we're able to do clean install, but I suppose the reason is because Microsoft... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's to transfer your license from Windows 8 to Windows 10.

It's still a cumbersome way to do it (plus, pointless wear and tear on our SSDs.) It could just as well transfer the license when you're doing a clean install for the first time; I don't know of any knowledgeable people who really recommend doing windows OS upgrades; it always seems to cause problems of one kind or another sooner or later.

My windoes 7 PC is an inline upgrade from Xp,vista.

The xp not completely sure clean install or upgrade from Me.

BTW the windows itself works but slow as snail in boot.

Does anyone else have a GeForce and use f.lux, under Windows 10? The cursor doesn't seem to be changed, along with the desktop, when f.lux changes the temperature.

what is even stupidier is. First I Install win 8 from dvd, but then need to download 3.6GB to upgrade to win 8.1 before I can upgrade to win 10. i.e. why on earth can't you go from win 8 - > win 10 ( FWIW you can go from win 7 to win 10 )

btw: The internet speed has been normal today, compared to when a IOS version is released, when it just plumets for a couple of days

Heh, well I've never noticed any difference TBH - except maybe that Apple's already slow downloads get even slower of course... :)

Has anyone had their upgrade pop yet btw? Mine sure hasn't, but then again it's only been the 29th for a couple hours local time, maybe it's keyed to WCT? The upgrade urge is horrific, btw. :D I so want to get rid of this shitty OS...

Depending on who you believe, this is already bigger than even the largest of Apple's streaming events.

Edit: Grall, I've been watching the $Windows.~BT folder and also resource monitor on a frequent basis since midnight has passed here in the CST zone. About ten minutes ago, my network utilization hit ~65mbit and I now have 3GB of data in my staging folder. I wager the w10 upgrade will drop onto my box in the next 30 minutes or less.

Yeah our local Akamai had something like 3* a 'normal' Apple update spike yesterday, more stable about 2* today.

I've got 3.67GB in the $Windows.~BT folder & my Windows Update history interestingly has several 'failed' status Upgrade to Windows 10 Home entries from last night.
But the upgrade taskbar icon doesn't give me an option & Windows Update gives me none.
I wonder what happens if I run the setup.exe in that folder?

Ugh, wanted to wait but I find myself desperate to go for it straight away.
Has anyone run the update?
Any sign of terribad problems?
