Well according to Digit Life the price of the Volari is pretty decent, see for yourself :

So, on February 28 Chinese Lian Guan (Crown Electronic Technology), which facilities are mainly located in Shenzhen, Guangdong, is going to ship two new solutions:

Crown X Tornado Volari V8 Ultra 128MB DDR (MBGA chips) — 799 yuan ($97)
Crown X Tornado Volari V8 64MB DDR (TSOP chips) — 666 yuan ($80)

These should be followed in the near future by the following:

Crown X Tornado Volari Duo V8 Ultra 256MB DDR2 (MBGA chips) — 1599 yuan ($193)
Crown X Tornado Volari V8 128MB DDR (TSOP chips) — 733 yuan ($89)
Crown X Tornado Volari V3 Ultra 128MB DDR (TSOP chips) — 399 yuan ($48)

You have to admit that these $193 set by Chinese company for Volari Duo V8 Ultra 256MB DDR2 are very different from the current sky-high price tags (set by Club3D). And the prices of single-GPU DX9 Volari V8 Ultra 128MB DDR and Volari V8 64MB DDR cards are even more bright

Still not good enough when you can get some kind of NV35 or R350 for around the same price or lower.

Anyway, has SiS / Trident / XGI ever demonstrated working anisotropic filtering on their hardware?

Not to my knowledge.

I wrote 'em some questions about it, but haven't heard back from them yet. :(

That's cause of the drivers...the new drivers came out today...so I guess we'll have to wait and see what the review sites say...

Well XGI renamed the Trident Blade3d 9880 to XGI 9880 I think . Never heard of the 9900 heh. I never understood Trident's naming schemes I have a 8900 ISA, a 9750 AGP and a 9880 sitting in a drawer

The V8 Duo has a hard time coming close even to the mainstream sollutions above.

Besides it sounds like a very profitable business to me, especially with costly multi-chip sollutions. :oops:

Well keep in mind they came from the last generation of Trident cards, which if I recall correctly, didn't even have DX7 T+L as their features (I may be wrong). I forgot the 9880 featureset, but the 8900 and 9750 were at best 2D cards.

The XP4 is Trident's first desktop DirectX 8.1 GPU that is supposed to offer 80% of the performance of a GeForce4 Ti 4600 at $99. We know, talk is cheap, but let's see if Trident is on to something even reasonably viable with this little chip.

What's the deal with their press release today:

I find it wonderful that XGI even bothers to continue support for those old antics from Trident. nVidia doesn't even bother to support the VooDoo series after their merger, whereas XGI still cares bout Trident's customers.

Goes to show how "keeping face" is important over in Asia and I am impressed at their customer care.

Yu can't honestly compare prices of the Volari with prices of Radeon on Pricewatch simply because the Volari is not available in the USA!
Just look at the huge price difference of Volari prices in Europe and China and you will see where I'm getting to. In the same way, Radeons and Geforces are much more expensive in Europe than in the States.

And therein lies another problem - You can't find Volaris in most places. :( I'm still yet to see one available for purchase in the UK.

That's what people said about the FX range. I suppose time will reveal the truth.

Ok local prices, numbers are universal:

9800PRO= 220 euros

http://www.infoshop.gr/product.asp?PrID=326678

9600PRO= 123 euros

http://www.infoshop.gr/product.asp?PrID=326640

Should I run up a couple of german or british sites to find even better deals than those?

You can get a Radeon 9600 XT 128MB for £114. You can get a 9800 non-pro for £140, while a pro will cost about £176.

All those are including VAT.

Hi all,

I'm going to follow up the Driverheaven volari review with an update using the new drivers (probably this weekend). Anything you guys would specifically like tested/checked?
