Downloaded the video on my PS3 and had to watch it a couple times.

It looks impossibly good. I'm not convinced it is real time! Not with that level of AA and 1080p! I guess we will find out in just 2 more days.

If it does turn out to look just like that Sony is going to have a hell of an impressive way to show off the PS3. But if it just looks like the TGS demo, there will likely be negative reaction to it.

BTW, Dec 24th in Japan is Dec 23rd in the USA.

Gametrailers have a 720p version. It has it's moments of realism, and in that clever GT method, you're eye's so taken with the cars you ignore the rather iffy scenery. As mentioned already, the car detail is pretty extreme. The car shaders are mostly very convincing. The lighting could be improved though. In the last scene, with the gold car passing under the trees, there's no shadow cast across the car at all. Thus the stills look a lot closer to photos than the game in motion, as the areas that 'need' improving aren't apparent.

As for AA, I think this trailer is intended for Japanese TV, going by GameTrailer. At which point IQ will be of the impossible-promotional-strength variety, only available by prescription.

That's odd about the shadows since they did shadowing or whatever you want to call it in this tunnel pic

Image based motion blur will never look as good as PRMan's stuff, though. Cars moving towards/away from the camera, or entering/leaving the frame may also show strange artifacts.

Though I wonder if a typical viewer would notice the difference...

Bingo! The "typical user" will look at your in a weird way if you even say the words "motion blur"... Let alone distinguishing between two types of it. They'll think you're talking about a rock band, a new videogame, or a new brand of condom... o_O

Something similar to the COD3 comparisons. Colors having some grizzly effect. Dont get me wrong, the game (GT:HD) looks fantastic to me despite that

they definitely need to work on the surroundings, they look very PS2'ish i guess, or last gen anyways....seems to me that if they can do what they did with the car detail which is very very good, they could much more easily use real backgrounds since they are pretty much just static....

now i want to see what Forza 2 can do for me on my 360......i'm tired of waiting

I agree that the cars look fantastic. These media are like car-pr0n. You (well, I) don't see the background. All eyes on the subject. ... hmm... and free too :D

    By the way...

It's confirmed that GT:HD concept will be downloadable at the US store on the 24th as well as in JP. I can't get the link here, but there was an SCEA press release about it.

No need to log into JP acc to DL it!
