Does GT5 Prologue/whatever current version ... allow installing to HDD and does it improve load times?

GT5P was a downloadable title and like all downloads on the PS3, be they demo's or arcade titles, required a PC-style install of the full game. This is different to what happens with disc-based titles and partial installs (be they mandatory or not) where it's just usually key data such as textures, etc to improve loading and streaming performance.

As Cheezdoodles said, the load times in GT5P are pretty long, but again I wouldn't put too much on that with regards to the full game, as PD will have vastly improved their tech over the last couple of years for the full game.

GT Prologue has an install, but load times are looooooooooooong

Long compared to what though? Most racing games I know of take time to load a track. There's little streaming to be done there - most games load the whole track at once, and that takes a while.

I'm fairly sure that GT5 final allows for tracks to be cached to HDD. I don't know of any other stuff though. Considering that even Forza 3 needed two DVDs, I imagine that a full HDD install isn't very likely ;)

I think there could be an option to install all the tracks to the HD, I remember some interview where Kaz mentioned the super hardcore would love to install the full game and he wanted to do it.

Head tracking.....

I honestly hope that demo isn't "representative of final product" and is based off a very old build. The AI is atrocious.... not even an attempt to shift off the driving line, even when the player car was sitting there sideways. And the invisible wall right at the side of the track.... very jarring.

Only saw a video where one AI car avoided the player at the last minute to prevent a crash.

Other than that…. patience, Grasshopper.

Come on, dont expect from AI to always dodge You, especially when You're trying to drive through the whole road. There's no game where it's possible and even in real life You get crashes in such circumstances. He should just wait for cars to pass by.

AI is awesome in GT 5 and this movie shows it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvoCGY2fjv4&feature=player_embedded

I'm skipping through it and there's a lot of times where the AI could take a non-ideal line to cut you off but doesn't. Like around 2:00-2:20, everybody's clustered up but the AI just seems to follow it's own line and doesn't really seem to try to maneuver the other drivers off the road.

Is the objective to win the race or to maneuver other drivers off the road ?

What AI level is this ? ^_^

When you're behind, you often have to take a non-ideal line to pass the driver in the lead and in response, that driver would cut you off. These are pretty simple and common tactics in motorsport and I've seen it a lot in Forza 3 but it depends on your difficulty level.

:???: Cutting off doesn't happen that often in real racing (at least from what I've seen)... overtaking is usually done fairly clean. Drivers are, for the most part, respectful, and once the driver behind gets their nose in, they will try to avoid contact so that they both don't get f***ed up and lose the race (especially in F1). Blocking happens, sure, but within reason. If the driver behind doesn't have their nose in, they may do some minor blocking, but most passes usually happen at the last second because you gain speed by drafting and it also gives the driver in the lead no time to react. I remember watching a F1 race a while ago, and the driver in the lead constantly swerved back and forth to block the driver from passing (and probably to prevent him from drafting) and the commentators laughed and said something like, "you only see that stuff in video games". It also depends on the kind of racing. I think some types of races penalize you for doing such a stunt (going off line to steer your opponent off track while he's attempting to overtake you).

Here are some F1 race clips on youtube. As you can see, the driver in the lead makes little to no attempt to cut the driver off (and certainly not run them off the track).

You wouldn't see that in open-wheel racing because just a little touch can send both cars spinning out. Body contact and doing tight maneuvers around people ahead of you is pretty common in touring car racing though.

Are We watching that same video? There are almost always AI's on non-ideal line, just watch closely and dont skip. Look at mirrors also, especially around 3:10, every AI fight for place there and are aware of themself and player.
