I drove the Citreon "smashed crab" sports car in the nearest Gamestop today. GT5 is indeed very pretty.

One of the tracks has accelerated day-night cycle too. Too bad only the Arcade mode is active.

They didn't hook up PSEye to the unit though.

FWIW, there have been a few hints posted on GAF that suggest that the release date is Nov. 30th/Dec 1st.
Mostly based on rumors and hearsay. Nothing official yet. That could just mean that Sony is being careful, and not wanting to announce another release date until they're damn sure they can actually hit it.

GT5 EU release date rumors:
http://www.gtplanet.net/555000-copies-of-gt5-for-france-new-launch-party-date/

First up, word from “distribution sources” indicate more than half a million copies of Gran Turismo 5 are headed to France. More specifically, there will be 450,000 standard copies, 100,000 Collector’s Editions, and 5,000 Signature Editions available in the country. (Amazon.fr is still taking SE reservations, so hop on that if you’re interested.)

Also, GT5’s big Madrid launch party has a new date of November 24th/25th. As you may recall, the launch party was first scheduled for October 26th/27th. Considering the party was to be held exactly one week before the game’s intended worldwide launch, a release during the week of November 29th – December 3rd is beginning to look extremely likely. This release window aligns perfectly with what I’ve been told before and Sony’s own retail outlet, SonyStyle, who lists a launch date “on or around” November 30th for the game.

...

Yes, it seems to exist. Of course, just before it is actually released there will be some kind of recall because of a song that wasn't licenced or whatever ...

Things are looking hopeful though!

Apparently the 24th is the currently going date for release, and I'm guessing 24th November rather than December, but we'll see. It does make sense, as it's on a Wednesday (European release generally) and also two days before Black Friday (U.S.), right? And if they've indeed been printing for a week, they'll easily have had the three weeks needed to print these, and I'm sure they just fly these copies in rather than ship them. ;) Of course, stuff can still go wrong with shipping and everything so we'll see, but so far things are looking good. As long as it's at least out before 15 December, I'm good because I have a few weeks of holiday coming up then. :p

I'd love for it be before BF so I can find a good GT5/Slim BF deal. I really want to get some time in with the game before I head out for a long vacation.

The date is very much up in the air at the moment. The closest thing we have to any impending release is Yamauchi saying that the discs have (by now) already been made.

There's some talk that they won't announce the release at all.. simply blammo.. "In stores NOW!!" and the big media/advertising stampede. It would make sense if it happens around Black Friday, too.

I'm just going to put in a pre-order at my local Gamestop tomorrow and let them call me when it's in. Done deal.

I think they want to be certain this time around of the release date. Not announcing a release date would be stupid. The game is obviously done, but they probably just need to produce sufficient stock. I think it's in their best interest to release it by Black Friday with an announcement coming a week or two before and advertisements in store flyers showing that it will be in stock on Black Friday (well, that's what I hope anyway).

The tracks video (which probably doesn't show all tracks yet, but not sure) suggests that rain and snow as well as day/night and day/night transition are track specials, as I expected. For instance there's a day/night transition version of Le Mans, a night + rain version of special stage, a rain version of suzuka, etc.

EDIT: he's uploading all sorts of other stuff. Oil change hasn't changed, but as you win a car with a special paint color it seems you can now use that paint to paint any? of your own car's body or wheels.

Racing modifications are in, and 'airodynamic parts'

Access to higher level races and special events now locked by a 'level'. Special events include the top gear track. These seem to be like the mission mode in GT4.
