If I had to make a bet on the next Xbox being a PC, I would bet on an Nvidia SoC with ARM CPU. Microsoft will try to push Windows on ARM as well through this. One of the big obstacles in adoption of Windows on ARM is the lack of native gaming, this will a step in that direction.

UDNA RDNA... doesn't count. This is just marketing text. They've hit their ceiling with traditional rasterization, and the next architecture won't be significantly better in terms of raw power. The new Nvidia VGAs also know more than the previous generation almost only because of AI, and this will also be the case with AMD.
Right now AMD is pretty much reusing the texture units for intersection tests, and most of the pipeline is done in software. Completely different from Nvidia, low area spent, low performance. Same situation for AI acceleration.

I don't know what you're talking about. RDNA4 will be a significant leap compared to 3, both in terms of Ray-tracing and AI upscaling. There is a bigger leap in technology now than when switching from RDNA 2 to RDNA3.

The new Xbox could be unveiled at this year's GDC and could even be released this year.
I would be thrilled to see what this could be but it sounds like a blunder of epic proportions if they did so. Another traditional console would be expensive and or a dud, a handheld maybe would offer a compelling new gateway to the Xbox ecosystem. Some sort of OEM device would be a differentiating factor but again, software support for it would be a pain to meet requirements unless they relaxed them which would basically make it another PC. I just dont see how releasing a new Xbox this year solves their issues related to HW

I'm thinking 2027 now, as that's what the rumor mill and AMD's time table are suggesting. Unlike some people around here, I don't think they need to worry about Sony's time table anymore. Their hardware is just about maintaining and expanding GP and not about attracting PS owners anymore. 30+ dev teams can fill in any software gaps and besides, we're looking at 2-3 years of cross gen anyway.
The best year for a next gen console is 2028 even based on MS's estimates which were leaked from the FTC case. Its not Sony's time table. 2028 is the year when its expected there will be enough technological developments at the appropriate cost both in terms of software and hardware to warrant a new console.

The idea of it being a PC in a box is great as that would allow for higher end versions for enthusiasts from OEMs, but the base version can't be more than $100 more to make this happen. In other words, if the base "console" Xbox Prime would have been $599, then I think making a PC compatible Xbox Prime is worth it for $699 or less. The brilliant thing about the PC Xbox Prime is that Sony ports will work on it. Sony couldn't bring a title to PC without it working on the Xbox Prime. Sony would be "forced" into multi-platform.

Xbox Marketing: "Get an Xbox Prime and GP for amazing value, and play The Last of Us and Spider-Man if you want. We're all one big happy family now."
Sony's going to be releasing their titles onto PC between 1-4 years after the playstation release dates, not day and date. And such an Xbox PC console hybrid as you've suggested would come with some serious issues. For example, the only way the game would run without piracy is through Steam or Epic stores but not through the Xbox store since Sony wont be releasing their core titles on Xbox. So consumers would have to be able to install those game store. If anything it may increase the odds of Steam and Epic replacing the Xbox game store. Doesnt make business sense.

I struggle to see how Sony would be forced into being multi platform in such a situation.

In my opinion, it makes no sense to build on traditional console hardware, because it has been proven that you cannot compete with the other two competing console companies in this way due to the current situation. Another proof of this is that they didn't even bring out a midgen console in the traditional sense. That's why I believe they're merging the console with the PC. They release their own hardware configuration and make the Xbox OS available for all modern PCs. The requirements will not be too strict.

The main point of the whole thing will be the transformation and further development of Game Pass, so that it is an alternative to this model for everyone.

So essentially opening up the Xbox to OEMs while maintaining a reference console for each gen. Because if you dont have a reference configuration then you're going to get into all sorts of issues with software. As well will this PC Xbox hybrid allow other game stores such as Epic or Steam or it will only be Xbox GP on it? I think allowing other store on it would kill GP even further.

Logic dictates this.

(unless they buy steam)

They've already released some games day and date on PC. Helldivers released day and date. Concord released day and date and got unreleased day and date as well. Marathon is going to be day and date on PS5, Xbox and PC.

Yeah those ones it makes sense, but expecting God of War, Horizon, Intergalactic or Spider Man day and date on PC is honestly wishful thinking. 1-4 years is more realistic.

Sony will slowly move to 6 months to a year as time goes on IMO. Even for single player blockbusters.

As for Sony games on a PC Xbox? Many ways around the issues stated.

For one thing, I don't think Steam on Xbox is impossible. Also, I don't think Steam on Xbox would even hurt GP.

They have already said that GaaS games will be day and date years ago.

Lego Horizon (developed and published by Sony owned entities) was day and date. MLB The Show (developed by, but not published by on Xbox) was day and date as well. It seams to be a case by case basis. Some games are a year, some more, some less.

Both cases aren't rapresentative of the direction necessarily. One is a collaboration with Lego and the other has the MLB wanting it on other platforms.

Not saying it will not happen in the future, and I can see the switch 2 being an opportunity for Sony to expand their audience with a platform that isn't as competitive with them as Xbox.

That's the point, though. A blanket 1-4 years delay isn't in effect, because Sony is releasing games day and date. We can make an excuse for any game being published day and date, but looking at their releases in totality, they are clearly open to the idea of putting their games on non-Sony platforms, sometimes with little to no delay.
