The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

interesting, and ps3's version is?

I am curious myself. Lens of Truth posted their Head2Head of Darksiders earlier this week, but it was missing analysis as well. I remember them mentioning dithering on the PS3 as an issue with previous games (Avatar and Saboteur). I wonder if this is the reason?

It was widely known the PS3 version of Orange Box was just a terrible conversion back in the day. One of the worst on the system.

actually only episode 2 had framerate problems,hl2,ep1 and portal all run pretty good...plus,the ps3 version had anti aliasing and better lighting compared to 360,which makes up for the worse framerate

thanks for the two posts.:smile2:

hmmmm, 360 rises as high as 40 to 50 fps at times, even 60. (without patch)

I'm wondering what does this patch exactly do to the frame rate and stability?

I'm thinking they might have enabled vsync on it, or possibly locked the frame rate. you think you could run a test on the 360 version with the patch installed?

As far as I know, the patch has not been released yet.

I'm holding out on choosing which version to go until after the patch is released. I'm currently leaning towards the PS3 version at the moment, but I'm in no hurry so will wait patiently.

I wouldn't say better lighting, especially because even simple lamps are far too bright and wash the surroundings out. You also can't help wondering if without the AA or other additions like motion blur the game would have been more stable.

Also, the (only :( ) patch for the PS3 version mentioned several 'memory leaks' that it fixed. I believe I ran into one of these once in HL 2, as the framerate dived to completely unplayable levels that could only be fixed by quiting the game.

A framerate analysis would be interesting. Be nice to finally quantify just how bad it is after all this time.

I'd be curious for a ModNations Racer report. Some of us a grumbling like mad about framerate, but how bad is it really?!
