The Framerate Analysis Thread part 2

Am I the only one that didn't notice any tearing?

Are you in 1080 or 720 mode? The easiest way to see it is to play with the view that puts the camera near the ground with just your instruments displayed. Then when your ghost gets in front of you it will tear really bad. It will tear in the behind the car view also but not as much. I haven't tried the in car camera so I don't know about that one.

Wow, that gameplay 3 looks amazing ... if I could play these games without the actual fighting I would be a big Final Fantasy fan ... :D As it is, I keep being drawn in by the story, the adventure aspects etc, and keep getting stuck on the actual fighting (probably because nobody ever told me I needed to grind)

It may be the influence of the ghost car.

Yes, I stated in the story that the ghost car was included as well as internal and external views in order to give the engine as thorough a work-out as possible within the limited means available in the demo.

Grandmaster, I know it's a beta, but have you taken a look at the Modnation Racers beta yet? Framerate feels really janky, and if I'm noticing it it must be truly horrible.

Interesting. Thanks Noticed the framerate drop in some weird places and stay stable in others when i played the ps3 demo. Can't tell how much is related to the fps and how much is just lag for me though

Is this using official tracks or a user generated ones? I'd imagine the latter would generally result in worse results due to the lack of optimisation of assets possible. Its always easy to write off BETA software but for a 3D arcadey racing game where the genre standard was set at 60fps some 15 years ago the signs don't look too good.

Capping at 30fps would seem like an easy "optimisation" to help the overall perceived smoothness/steadyneess in the final build, those occasional framerate spikes really aren't helpful in a racing game imo. Hard to properly tell from the video but there appears to be no motion blur either? I think that might be impacting on why so many are perceiving the framerate as low, its a long time since we saw a racing game that wasn't either 60fps or 30fps + high quality motion blur, and the alternative (i.e. 30fps w/ no motion blur) has really just never been adequate imo.
