Sony's NeoGeo Pocket's (PSP2/Vita) business/non technical ramifications talk

(do this topic eats smaller questions as well)

Do anyone have had access to PSVita and wifi hotspot tethering system. Do Vita support adhoc wifi hotspots, such as created by Symbian^3 JoikuSpot application?

Some mobile devices refuse to work with adhoc, instead always require infrastructure wifi ("router version"). I have such Android tablet (HPTouchpad with rooted android) and must create infra hotspot with NokiaC7+usb cable+OviSuite 3g connection+Win7 setup.

Win7 is able to create infra wlan and share open network connection made through cell phone. Works fine in hotel rooms but not suitable for real mobility usecases. Android cell phones are able to create an infra wifi hotspot so no problem for them, we S^3 users are in bad shape.

edit: According to this topic PSVita does not support adhoc wifi hotspots, but this specslist says infra/adhoc modes available. Jury is still out.

Is the 3G Sim card on Vita the small one as in iPads?
I just pre ordered the 3G model, and am wondering if I'd be able to use same sim card on iPad and Vita.

I read in GAF that Connectify works. It seems that not all tethering software works with Vita.

No idea. You can always use a Sim card jacket.

Did you get the early bundle or a loose unit ? I'm still deciding.

Yes, but rabidrabbit said explicitly that he's ordered Vita and wants to know if its sim will fit in an iPad. ;)

No he just asked if he can use the same card on both :) He should have no problems though as he can use the adapter with Vita. Vita seems to have the standard big sim.

Yep, I already have the iPad, but no sim for it yet :) So I'm planning to get a mini sim for the iPad.
The jacket solution should definitely work, didn't think of that. Thanks!
I ordered the bundle as it comes with €20 PSN card. It's unclear if it includes anything else extra. Actually, the shops here offer only the two options: WiFi only or WiFi + 3G, and if preordered you get that €20 worth of PSN card.

Yap, you get the sim card and one free game when you activate the 3G plan with AT&T.

I just pre-ordered my Vita:
* First edition pack (3G Vita + Little Deviant + carrying case + 4Mb mem card)
* 32Mb memory card

Hope to get a Hori screen protector and something like Nyko's grip battery pack at launch.

I will not buy Vita at launch (as I did with PSP Go, which I really like). Here are my reasons.

1. No way to change accounts. I want to play SW from both Japan and Europe. Not possible today (it takes over 10 minutes).

2. No PSOne support at launch.

3. No Youtube app/good support (is this true?).

4. Limited support for audio files and video files/formats (no flac, no mpg2, no mkv).

5. Can not add files using USB Mass storage.

If Sony fixes some of this, they will get another customer for the current price they are asking. If not, maybe I will get it when the price drops.

I think there will likely be a youtube app. Would be quite disappointed if that didn't happen. They'll get Netflix and NicoNico, but no Youtube, while the 360 just got one? Seems unlikely, though nothing is impossible. Also expect to see 1080p happen eventually even if only for DLNA streaming.

I'm hoping the accounts thing for playing PSN titles will be supported at least by entering a different memory card that is linked to a different account. That said it's not important for me anymore - I'm not likely to buy anything from a different region anytime soon.

Sony should get the PSP Homebrew developers to chip in:
http://pspslimhacks.com/pmplayer-advance-ppa-3-15-fixes-videos-not-playing-in-6-xx/

Cooleyes has released PMPlayer Advance 3.15, this version fixes the problem with some videos not playing under firmware 6.xx. PPA is a media player that can play MKV, MP4, PMP, FLV formats.

I agree Sony could do better in handling Vita's launch (or for that matter PS Suite launch also).

There is a "Destination Playstation" event scheduled for early Feb. Hope to hear more news then.
