Sony Gamer's Day 2008 (May 6, 2008)

The smoke swirl (turbulence) was in previous trailers too. It's one of my favorite effects in KZ2.
I look forward to seeing it, as the smoke was one of the key aspects to the '05 CG that were identified as 'impossible'! Certainly the low-res stuff I've seen so far has looked great. The PS3 movies were wrongly linked when i had a look earlier, downloading the Iron Man trailer, so hopefully that's fixed and I can check it out.

The lens flare effect is still there (and it's very nice..looks very similar to what we had on HS), I'm talking about the noise that was applied to the whole image as post processing effect

Yes, there was a beautiful film-like grain effect. I really hope that it will be included in the final build. I hope also that the number of enemies and comrades will greatly increase (at least where it would have sense), opening the field for awesome, large scale battles. Maybe at this stage of the build the developers chose to show a smooth demo and didn't charge the number too much. Anyway I remember MotherH answering to an user who asked about the numbers of characters that will appear simultaneously on-screen in the final game, that they want create a war, and that few men don't make a war. Encouraging.

What I like most of the footage is that there aint any overdone effects, I cant stand the overdone bloom effects many games throw at you. The trailers show tons of effects, but instead of each effect poking your eyes out to notify you its there, they just silently up in a truly great looking picture.

I find it kinda ironic tough that games try to get filmgrain (and other annoyances like lensflares), while movies try to get rid of it as much as possible  . Might as well lock to 23.976 FPS for an authentic bigscreen-experience.

Finally got all of the direct feed footage from PSN. I glad they made the footage available. Previous shows were greatly lacking in that respect. I hope they do the same, or even better, for upcoming events. Events broadcast live through Home would be a huge hit, I suspect.

After watching a few of them, I think I like Reeves even less than Kaz. At least as speakers. There's just no charisma, charm, or "approachability" for lack of a better term. I do like Price though. :D His speech didn't seem forced. Didn't speak like he was addressing an audience he felt indifferent to or talking about a subject where his enthusiasm has to be "written in" instead of genuine. I get that feeling from Reeves. I'm not sure if that feeling is well founded, as he could have been just having a bad day.

I miss Phil :(

Probably too big a hit, resulting in servers hammered into submission and unable to do their job. Has anyone ever provided live feed for shows? Eurogamer et al stick with low bandwidth text, and the footage dribbles out over time with downloads where speed of delivery isn't critical, unlike realtime footage.

Yes, IIRC, live E3 footage has been available in the past. Gamespot in particular offered live streaming footage of the press conferences (not very high quality though, for the sake of bandwidth as you mentioned). I think another company also offered higher quality footage, but it was a paid service I think.

Not that I disagree about the hit on servers. And I don't think Gamespot offered that last time, probably due to the cost. But I suspect the ESA and SCE could work something out in terms of dedicated servers and bandwidth for the show, particularly with the right ad arrangements.

Ah, then again there are SCE's regional servers for Home and PSN itself that would also take a huge hit from people just logging in to watch. That's before they even reach the "E3 area" and hit the live streaming servers.

Ok, so, it would be quite the undertaking. But after pulling it off they would have gone a long way towards to mending community relations. Especially if they went ahead and did a virtual E3 recreation (Sony themed) w/ all of the (Playstation related) demos and press conferences available for Home users to enjoy as they walked the virtual halls of (wherever its going to be at this year).

And if they could pull off E3, the rest of the shows should be easy (relatively). :D

I was thinking of high quality broadcasts. I can't imagine Sony would want YouTube style quality media, even though it'd be a good addition. eg. Their trailers are all high-def, high-bitrate. If you want a glimpse of a new game, it's 120 MBs or so, rather than an instant GameTrailers/YouTube experience. Perhaps Home will offer streamed content in a way PSN Store hasn't? It would be worth doing, an auditorium, or a cinema building showing the show live. Would get a lot of visitors and be good advertising for anyone wanting to sponsor and take up some of the costs!

Reeves talks like a University Professor, or TV History programme presenter. It even looked like he was reading off an autocue. Not the right impression really.

Hey, Guys ! Is it only me wondering where did "Heavy Rain" go??!?!?:oops:

I mean it wasn't there on PS day !
Also, the new title which made the BBC reporter sh1t in his pants!
Where are the games gone?
No teaser turned up for GOW III either!
No eight Days!!

Why? Where?

Last year they did reveal a lot of new games at playstation day, but none at E3. I thing this year are waiting for E3. Gamesites aren't going to say you "won" E3 if you have nothing new to show.

Kotaku said there is a sony event this Friday. Maybe they'll show it there. If not, then we have to wait until E3

The original God of War was like 3 years in the making or even longer.

When did they first preview it?

You would hope they've been working on GOW3 for at least a year now.

Maybe not ready to show anything yet. Or they don't plan to release until late 2009 so no point in showing it now?

Of course, they've been showing KZ2 for years now.
