Red Dead Redemption 2

Still no word on the PC release date?

Hopefully, it doesn't end up in the PC abyss of missing titles like the original Red Dead Redemption.

6 months after release we'll likely either get an announcement of PC release in 6 months later or that there will be no PC release. GTA has a history on the PC from the start but they're under no "obligation" to release RDR2 on PC and they just may have decided to not bother again.

oh please no, not that. If there is one game I want on PC is this one.

In regards to the article. It's not just about the good words, it's about the right words. That's perfect marketing, if you choose the correct writer, which IGN did. And the IGN writer simply has written an incredible article that makes you want to read it and the choice of words is difficult to beat.

Considering that SteamSpy estimated that GTA V made 83 million USD on Steam in 2017 (2017 alone, no other years in that report). That doesn't count other outlets that year or any in game transactions. It'd be silly to ignore PC. RDRedemption was developed after the very poor showing of GTA IV on PC (PC users feeling that it was a poor port), so it's understandable that they skipped RDRedemption as well as almost skipped PC with GTA V. Granted RDRevolver was also not on PC, but then it was also originally a Capcom title and they didn't really do PC ports of games at that time, which got cancelled and then purchased and finished by Rockstar games.

It'll be interesting either way to see whether GTA V's success on PC will encourage them to release RDR2 on PC.

[edit] Lifetime sales on Steam for GTA V is between 500 million USD and 1 billion USD.

Regards,
SB

I'd assumed it was going to launch on PC at the same time as consoles, but nope. Checked. Not even an announcement it's coming to PC. It's surely is, but when.

NowI'm ging to read all that IGN coverage that AzBat linked too.

In response to @iroboto asking for people's impressions of the trailer. It did nothing for me :nope: So looking forward to the game though.

I think a PC version will show up. GTAV's success on PC can't be ignored, and it requires fairly minimal investment to port it (compared to the cash it's gonna make).

Things were a bit more dubious with RDR, after the lukewarm reception with GTAIV and the fact that particular studio had little PC experience.

It's not innovative, but it's a pretty big step up from your usual R* open worlds. They're gorgeous, but they are incredibly superficial. Stuff like the example with the fisherman isn't something you'd find in any other open-word game that's not also an RPG.
What I'm wondering about is whether the impact and the consequences of your actions are actually gonna last, or if it's just gonna be like in every other open world where your massive pile of exploded vehicles will simply vanish from view the moment you spin your camera around.

I mean the pedestrians in GTA also react to the way the player behaves. It just doesn't really matter in the end.

I'm curious too. Rockstar's open worlds have always felt the most alive, so to see greater permanence and responsiveness would take it to a whole new level.

Interesting bits to me, pre-order bonuses are complete single player cheat codes.

The only mention I found of online:

Rank Bonuses: As a great start for all Ultimate Edition players, you can rank up faster in online, up to rank 25.

Looks like the bonus content starts with the Special addition that gives you extra bank robbery and gang hideout side quest missions.

Story mode boosts, cash bonuses and discounts? Plus cosmetics? They're really milking this one Jesus.

Ran out of campfire wood to save your game? Go scavenge some for awhile or buy 10 for only $9.99!

I'm confused. What else would you like them to have given as pre-order bonuses?

Personally, I preferred it when preorders or console exclusives were limited to cosmetics like if you buy early or on X system you get to play through the game wearing a different Batman suit! Wow, cool.. I guess. But doesn't impact game play in anyway.

It's not about them being pre-order bonuses, it's about them existing as micro-transactions for single player.

Ah, so you're just making that assumption? I didn't see anything about microtransactions in the pre-order notice, but it sure makes sense that since they can sell you boosts as a pre-order they can sell them to you later as a microtransaction.

Yeah the way they are labelled really screams store items to me.
