Rage (id Software)

Looks much better than I thought it would on ps3. Also, awesome quality for cam.

The biggest difference that I am expecting between the PS3 and 360 versions is framerate. I expect a less stable framerate for the PS3 version when the engine is under stress.

60fps ftw! It was difficult to choose between pre-ordering Gears3 or RAGE...but the latter's new ip edged out the former for me.

Yeah, Gears 3 is pretty good. I think Rage hits stores Oct 4, and I'm getting it too. I'm really hoping it plays similar to Borderlands.

Last night was the first time I had seen Rage, If someone had told me it was Borderlands 2 I would have believed it.

Looking pretty good indeed. But oh my, that guy is such an idiot... makes you instantly understand a lot of the simplifications and design decisions in current AA games.

Okay it looks utterly amazing even wit all the compression. Pop ins, well, more like fade ins, noticeable even with this video quality, but if you can really install one disc at a time (only option for us 20GB guys) then I think it'll be mostly gone. Still, all this on 6 years old hardware, hats off to Carmack.

I can't watch the video. it says "this video has been made private by the owner". But I trust iD and I know they are making an amazing job with this game running at a glorious 60 fps. You can't listen at my gushes over this game, but it's such a hottie...

Single disk 'install' has been confirmed a while back.
The install is same as in every X360 game so it works nicely. (basically makes disk .ISO and uses it.)

I think the world looks awesome. But what you do in it is too big of a contrast for me ... I like that you can also drive around, but other than that it seems almost as boring as walking around in a JRPG with random encounters. Maybe this is unfair, but that's the impression its giving me. And a lot of things are still corridored with seemingly very scripted AI, like this scene were the AI all moves to the same location facing the most obvious entry-point for the player, and not changing behavior at all even when you shoot them from the side and that location is no longer safe.

But it is a fantastic world otherwise, very impressive.

From not being very interested im now very much looking forward to it! This friday (UK) this and Dark Souls both release! And the mad rush begins!

I'm sure this has been discussed at some point, but I sort of took a hiatus from the forum and didn't see it, and "megatexture" in the search brings up way too many hits. Why is Megatexture a big deal? I mean, I know you can use it to draw, say, a 5120x5120 texture, but what efficiencies are gained using Megatexture versus using 100 512x512 textures? Is there some sort of indexing or compression that's faster with one giant texture instead of a bunch of small ones?
