Possible picture of Xenon PGR3 ??

I can't imagine that the first car picture is real time. We know the Xbox2 is a rasteriser and not a ray tracer, but those reflections could only imho be done with a ray tracer. If it was a rasterised reflection then there would be streaching and warping of the pixels as it reflection bends around the surface. However, there is not. The pixels in the reflection directly correspond to the pixel location in the final image, which is what a ray tracer would do. Therefore, it must be a pre-rendered image.

Are these areas not stretched and warped?

I just think that they have another way of doing realtime reflections :)

So ourcolony.net is a hotpot of rumour mongery, and not a closed XB2 marketting campaign? How much other stuff there is people uploading random stuff?

It took me less then 10 seconds to realise that it was a pre-render, notice how at the bottom of the first picture that the grill is reflecting on the car, as far as I know that wouldn't be possible with current realtime cube map reflection methods and would only be the realm of raytracing.
Don't be so sure. That part could either be photoshopped (it's obvious that at least some part of the image is photoshopped where that brighter red bleads over the logo - hell the whole front of the car looks brighter red, and could be enhanced in photoshop together with that reflection) or faked in realtime. They could have modelled that object in the reflection and just set it visible through the transparent red part. Only that part mind you, I don't think it would be too tough as it's reflecting in the flat surface.

The rest of reflections looks markedly worse though, you can see it's some kind of cubic mapping as it there are warps and irregularities that wouldn't be there if it was raytraced.

If that hex edit wording is genuine and not something placed there to fool people examining the image, this picture is supposed to be used as a magazine front page, so enhancing it in Photoshop wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Oooo this is so exciting... :devilish:

..I've seen prerendered car pics before this countless times, and these aren't even artistically (lighting, camera angles) that exciting.
Show me some real xbox360 game pics, even the souped up pics like what we see this gen, then I'll wake up.... zzzzzzz

rabbid rabbit, just pipe down until we know something offical ok? If i see one more person complaining about lighting, camera angles, reflections, or gloss, I'm gonna throw up

Please don't. People have been throwing up a lot here recently :)

I'm just not at all excited by these pics, not as I should when I see pics that are supposed to be next gen console game images.
If they are to promote xbox360 they should offer more variety and more impressive images than just some generic car renders.

They're competitive car renders, but that's just about all they are.
They don't make me think "OOOHHH!! So that is what next gen console gaming will look like!!! DROOOOL!!"
IMO they'd better just offer teasing glimpses like the controller pics, and some sublime messages until they are ready to show it fully like in that MTV show.
Feeding these generic concept renders just gives a boring first impression.
True, they are not mainstream advertising, but aimed at relatively small group, so it has little effect on the overall picture of things.

Ummmm...did you see the recent pic a few posts up???

What pic??? The EA NFS render?
That's better alright as an indication of next gen game, but still just a concept render.

Well it varies with different ppl. On GA some people are now convinced that raytraced reflections are not only entirely possible on new consoles, but also nothing special.

Though in hindsight, they should have released fuzzied up real photos instead, and then watch people argue how those are just conservative estimates of what realtime stuff will look like on new consoles.

im lost.

on side 1, next gen pics A shown, people say disappointed with them, because not good enoigh.

on side 2, next gen pics B shown, people say they too good, are fake fuzzies.

the best is not to post anything and wait to see it in the MTV. Although ,even then, many people will critizice what is shown. the blank post is the only real for sure.

Easy.

Side 1: PS3 Fanboys: "Good looking potential xenon shot? PROTECT THE PS3!! DOWNPLAY DOWNPLAY DOWNPLAY!!!!!!"

Side 2: xenon Fanboys: "Good looking potential xenon shot? OMGWTFBBQ! AWESOME IS XENON, XENON IS AWESOME!"

I kid, I kid. ;)

That picture with a red Porsche Carrera and the ant in the bottom right corner is probably a fake btw. There's couple of other color variations of that picture, and they are all obvious photoshop color swap hack jobs.
