Possible picture of Xenon PGR3 ??

The Ferrari fron pic and that latest yellow car pic look to my eye pretty indistinquishable from photographs, the last pic maybe less so because of the blank environment. But if they were shown to me in a car mag I would not think they are realtime pics from a game.

IF the games will look like that is another matter... we'll see.
I don't doubt xbox2 would not be able to render those pics realtime, but a game needs more... more cars, more environment, ai, physics.... so the iq will be less than those concept renders (if they are renders)

There is one thing for certain.

THis next generation is going to spawn a new breed of graphics whore. :D

There's only ever been one breed of graphics whore. ;)

But, a new generation of graphics whore, more than likely.

Why are they wasting their time with SM3 and HDRI techs if this is all it takes to keep people amused? :?

I WAN'T MORE!!!! :devilish:

I agree and what with the 2d people they should be able to put some nice looking low poly people over there to give it a bit more realism, it should be no 2d crowds in the next gen games

I can't imagine that the first car picture is real time. We know the Xbox2 is a rasteriser and not a ray tracer, but those reflections could only imho be done with a ray tracer. If it was a rasterised reflection then there would be streaching and warping of the pixels as it reflection bends around the surface. However, there is not. The pixels in the reflection directly correspond to the pixel location in the final image, which is what a ray tracer would do. Therefore, it must be a pre-rendered image.

EDIT: Accidently thought the link quoted at the top of the page was the initial image, I didn't realize we were on page three. :( I don't think the initial image is too far away from next gen as it does have jaggies on it so I wouldn't assume a render unless they started getting better at making renders look more like real-time producible graphics.

In another forum a person found out what the first pic is after being put into a hex editor

Or a retouched prerendered image, some of the blurring is likely done in Photoshop and some other adjustments (color levels etc...)

This generation alot of developers have taken to releasing "enhanced" screenshots showing gameplay situations with higher levels of resolution and anti-aliasing than what you see while playing (is that considered a render or a screenshot?). I was hoping that would stop next-generation! Guess not :/

It took me less then 10 seconds to realise that it was a pre-render, notice how at the bottom of the first picture that the grill is reflecting on the car, as far as I know that wouldn't be possible with current realtime cube map reflection methods and would only be the realm of raytracing.

It's seems this phto really was touched up. it was hard to notice until someone pointed it out, but it looks like they touched it up to hide the new xbox logo.

When is the magazine with this cover image supposed to be out? If it's after May 12, then it doesn't make sense to hide the logo, though the picture really shows a clumsy tape-like artifact half-covering up there.

Well the new xbox name I mean...

one,

it makes sense to hide the xbaox logo/name when the image is out in the public right now (i.e before it's annouced). I''m sure after the xbox is annouced the real magazine cover won't have the cheesy cover up.

oh... I thought you could actually see the logo in that pic. I noticed the rectangle though. :p

Probably hiding the name there. There's not enough room for a logo. *shrug*
