Playstation 3: Hardware Info and Price

A bit pricey but still gonna grab one.

Without HDMI on the low end priced one, does that limit developers building games at all?

Speng.

Is it just me, or does the console look a lot fatter than in the last years pics?

This would mean that Sony never has any intention of turning on ICT, so this could be a good thing for HD movie consumers, but this also means a possible boon for the "other side" as well.
HD-DVD and Blu-ray are 2 different things though.

Interesting these details were not in the show... I wonder: The no-HDMI SKU, it still plays Blu Ray media, just lower resolution.

Will this become a selling point?

I can't say I am necessarily price sensitive, but there is no way I am dropping money for a Wii and a PS3 now, on their respective launch days. I will have to do some soul searching to see if my two 360s are enough, or if I really really "need" one of the other consoles.

$600 (the other one already does not exist in my mind), damn, but I must say I'm pretty sure I predicted this in the pricing thread, its still a couple hundred dollars less than the first BD-ROMs that are supposed to ship next month AND it plays games. I wonder if the pricing on the other guys add-on was/is set or if they were waiting for this announcement...

$200-$300 more than the 360.

That's going to be an incredibly hard sale when the kiosks will show virtual no difference in game graphics. You'll have 2 systems side by side, each looking about equal to the other, and one is priced $200-$300 more. Does Sony really think Bluray movies will be in such huge demand that people will pay $200-$300 more for the same gaming experience?

Especially when you could get an HD DVD drive and a hard drive upgrade for the 360, and still come out much cheaper than the $600 PS3.

According to the chart...it should still support hi-def without HDMI...component output still does the job..although may not be good as HDMI

I dont know about you but I am more impressed with what I saw on the PS3 moments ago than what I ve seen so far on the 360 since it was launched.

The only game that looked truelly next gen to me on the 360 last e3 was Gears of War which run at very very low frame rates back then

Even if the graphics are the same, the games will be different. So for people who want to play GT, FF, etc., you can't get that gaming experience on any other system.

Plus the hardware, besides the Blu-Ray drive, you'll have the following over the X360 Premium:

1. motion-sensor Bluetooth controllers
2. 60 GB vs. 20 GB.
3. HDMI.
4. Wifi (vs. $75 for the X360?)

I said the only way they'd include the HDD is if it was $499usd. Check it out ;)
I'm not saying you were wrong, but your talking about loading times now.

The original specs included dual HDMI interfaces, isn't it possible that the main AV multi-out port supports HDMI, and that $599 unit simply adds the second HDMI interface.

Oh, my bad, ya that should help load times, great move by sony there, I'll give em a big pat on the back for the pre-installed HDD on all units. I really thought they'd aim for the $399 pricepoint.

I have part time job at Target now. You cannot believe how many people buy ugly LCD monitor because it is "HD". They see ugly LCD next to pretty CRT and say wow, LCD is amazing. So they are happy to buy expensive LCD with worse picture than cheap CRT.

When Blu-ray is sold in stores, people will say wow HD! And they will get store credit card and have much debt to buy HD drive and HDTV. Many Xbox360 buyer also buy HDTV! This is what is current market situation. Now, only old people and spare room have normal TV sales. Soon even old people sales and spare room sales will be only HDTV.

Also price difference for Xbox360 and PS3 is only $100. People will always pay more for what they think is best and now they think best must have Hard Drive. This is why no one wants 25% cheaper core system.

I don't know about you but I've enjoyed playing Oblivion on my 360 far more than watching PS3 cutscenes and FMV.

And from what I've seen of the PS3 graphically, it's no better than what I've seen on the 360. I haven't seen a single in-game screenshot that made me go "wow, that's better than anything on the 360."

But hey, if comparing almost completed games to a tech demo of a game that was over a year away from release makes you feel better about your choice, by all means use that excuse. Whatever works for you.

It's $200 of difference, there's two SKUs, just like the X360. And $100 difference if you compare the 20GB HDD X360 SKU to the 20GB HDD PS3 SKU.

Sony count on a few things to sell that, brand recognition being the most obvious one, features and game exclusives.

Now, let's try to keep the discussion as free of comparisons as possible.

As a gamer machine it offer more than the XB360, limited motion sensors, free online, HDD but it is way too costly for to many people, specialy if the base SKU will be much more limited almost turning a BD movie player in a DVD one (if there is only 480p signal).

Very sad IMO, but we got a new controler and still hope for a EyeToy too.
