Official GT5 discussion thread

I agree, but I'm fairly certain they've explained this before, that this was the only way for them to be able to secure the rights for these shows world-wide.

Ha ha, I messed up time again !
 Getting torn between work, gaming and family, but I guess it's a good problem to have.

New GT5 Time & Drift Trials, OCD, & Maintenance Schedule:
http://www.gtplanet.net/new-gt5-time-drift-trials-ocd-maintenance-schedule/

A batch of new Time and Drift Trials have gone live in Gran Turismo 5, along with a revised Online Car Dealership that highlights Mercedes-Benz.

Grand Valley Speedway hosts the first Time Trial for Japanese cars weighing no less than 1200kg, and Circuito de Madrid Mini hosts the second for front-wheel drive cars weighing no less than 800kg. The Drift Trials are held at the Daytona Road Course and Cote d’Azur. As of writing, though, there are no new Seasonal Events.

Polyphony Digital has also revised the GT5 online service update schedule they originally published last month. The game’s online features will now be unavailable during the following maintenance periods:

September 9, 2011, between 10:00AM and 6:00PM EST (convert to your time zone)
September 15, 2011, between 10:00AM and 6:00PM EST (convert to your time zone)

Looks like Sony has been busy updating the PSN backend.

First episode was aired last night:

Tune in tonight as Gran Turismo 5 makes its primetime television debut on Speed Channel with GT Academy, a five-part reality show featuring GT Academy and the fierce competition that gave the nation’s top 16 Gran Turismo drivers a chance to become a professional race car driver. The first episode airs tonight at 10 pm EST, followed by new episodes airing every Tuesday on Speed Channel during the same timeslot (please check your local listings for timing and updates).

Another update was released yesterday or the day before...

GT5 Update Fixes Top Gear Track, New Seasonal Event:
http://www.gtplanet.net/gt5-update-fixes-top-gear-track-new-seasonal-event/

Following up from the announcement last week, the leader boards for the Mercedes Live Race Seasonal Event have now been reset, and a few minor changes have been made to the Top Gear Test Track via the latest Gran Turismo 5 update.

...

You’ll be prompted to download update “1.13″, though Polyphony Digital’s formal announcement describes it as version “1.12.572″. Regardless, it weighs in at only 1.1MB.

More interesting is the new Seasonal Event, “Supercar Revival”, featuring classic cars with no more than 550PP in the following races:

Rome Circuit (5 laps, 419,000 Cr.)
Special Stage Route 5 (5 laps, 480,000 Cr.)
Suzuka Circuit (5 laps, 519,600 Cr.)
Nurburgring Nordschleife (1 lap, 559,500 Cr.)
Mt. Aso 109A (7 laps, 500,400 Cr.)

There’s a corresponding update to the game’s Online Car Dealership, along with new time trials at Tokyo R246 and Cote d’Azur, and new drift trials at Special Stage Route 5 and Circuit de la Sarthe 2009.

Testing cars on the Le-mans track and comparing times is quite fun. The "fast" cars are really not that fast when you take a really fast car and compare them. Do a practice session, and select free run and your runs are timed and saved. Just don´t crash or run to wide of track since your lap then will be invalidated. Save the fast laps and you can load them as Ghost cars or compare them in the "analyze" tool.

GT fans, thanks for waiting… The GT5 Spec 2.0 update is coming the 3rd week of October, with DLC following a week later. #gt5".

What could PD have done in a year? ..................Would love some engine optimisations! New tracks, events? New game modes? Music? Revamped GUI? Updated online functions? Fluffy dice?

Its important that they are working on some significant DLC now that F4 is closing by.

Its been a year and we havent seen any real DLC for GT5. We were hoping for the appearance of other tracks (old and new) after some leak of photos from their studios but nothing. And there are lots of important cars missing (or at least their premium versions) that F4 will have.

Has PD considered competition and what fans want? DLC is one of the most important aspects and a certainty for the consumer, that so far PD has neglected

No its not, DLC is a curse of this generation. What a consumer need is expansion pack or new game, not a crappy DLC every months that inflates cost of a game substantially.

total redesign of the UI.
No, please god no. Dont know what people have against UI, is great and beautiful, just has crappy load times.

Did I mention crappy DLC every month?

I disagree. I want to see new cars being added regularly, preferably current models. For instance, I'm going to drive the Ring now (hopefully) in a Citroen DS3. So I want that car. :)

Hopefully loadtime reduction and total redesign of the UI.

I think they need to speed up the UI and improve the flow a little so people don't have to do round trips to get back into the tracks.

However, I am most curious about FXAA for GT5, particularly to remove the shader aliases.

I guess the regulars are looking for new tracks. I'd love that too !

EDIT: I think the DLCs are fine. It's the unconsolidated patches that will kill a game. Boot up GT5 after a few months and you may be greeted by multiple patches. Sony need to consolidate the fixes into one patch from the user's perspective.
