No European PS3 launch until March

So MS probably knew about PS3 EU delay when they claimed 1 year exclusive PES deal. <guessing>

I also remember Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka saying this:
He also confirmed that a PlayStation 3 version of the game was already being worked on, and would most likely be released in spring or summer of next year, although no specific release date has been confirmed as of yet.

hmmm coincidence?

Yea, thanks for the nice xbox marketing speak scooby

You disagree? Lets hear your points. Otherwise save the fanboisms, what I said is the truth, and if you would calm down for half a second that you won't get your precious PS3, and actually look at the games available, you would realize that. BTW, I didn't know XBOX marketing encouraged people to buy a PS3 when it becomes available...

As annoying as it might be for some to hear it over and over again - PS3 really isn't just a games machine. And some of us intend uses for it beyond playing Resistance & Motorstorm at launch, and it's hard to replicate that with any other machine. But thanks for the sales pitch.

OK, so no BR player for a few months, hardly the end of the world. Did you really want to be buying large quantites of the SL MPG2 BR discs anyways??

I know some people have been waiting a loooong time, since E3 2005, but still, March-ish is when AC and HS should come out, so that's the ideal time to get a PS3 anyways, so unless you're dying to get a BR player in your house I don't really see the major dissapointment, other than not having the shiny new toy of course.

I'll probably wait though - assuming the Nintendo thingy is out (I still can't bring myself to say its name) I might pick up one of those to entertain myself in the mean time.

come on, MrWiibble, you know you can :p

sony missing the eu christmass is not nice. no matter how i look at it. my personal plans were to get ps3 way later in the product's lifecycle (at least not sooner than gt5's release) but this non-meeting of production volume basically inclines me to think that the price drop curve i (and i bet many others) were expecting during the console's 1st year will not be that good for skiing anymore. basically ps3 becomes more and more an xmas'07 thingie for me.

..which, in the grand scheme of the universe and all, should not bother me one bit as i'll be having my hands full anyway ; )

In fact many companies perceive the delay as a positive move, believing the slip means more units will be available for Europe come March plus they'll have more time to fine-tune their titles for the PAL market.

Electronic Arts was also upbeat about the delay, with Simon Smith-Wright, UK Head of PR, saying, "EA will have a great portfolio of games ready when the console arrives in Europe and we're looking forward to bringing our PS3 line up to consumers in the region this March"

Where're the gargantuan roll-eyes when you need them? I guess, we all should be glad that PS3 launch got delayed...

I seem to remember arguing with people whether some time back whether the EU launch would be pulled back to March 2006.

Hahahahah that was funny.

I remember arguing with people who were convinced it wouldn't come out until 2008. I'm begginning to think i will have to apologise!

X360 games are currently over 70 euros?

Do they come down in price a bit a few weeks after release?

Over here, X360 games come down under $50 and sometimes to $40 after a few weeks.

But shiny new toys are nice..;)

Asides from the BD playback, I also want to play with gcc on cell. You have to understand, also, I've been waiting for Blu-ray since I first got my projector about a year ago. It's been long enough already!

It's true, the lineup will be very nicely filled-out in Spring. But it's slim consolation when we'd be getting those games regardless by Spring. I'll see what happens in terms of imports, I might have an opportunity there now that some family has moved to the states, but I'm not holding my breath given the allocations there.

I wonder what the situation will be in spring. Will the shortages and mass hysteria commence on that date instead of this november or will they be better stocked. I'm not sure that theyve done anything but shift that frustration out 4 months.

Seems to me that Sony is gambling with all their chips on the table. They are using the PS3 in order to leverage Blu-ray. They've let XBox360 get a foot in the door, they've let HD-DVD get out to early adopters and studio support, they've missed the Christmas season, and even Nintendo will get out the door before them. Prices for PS3 will be high, and the standalone players to help the BR market will be even higher.

Instead Sony is gambling that they can hold off with the promise of the PS3 name, that they can win the HD/BR battle with PS3 and win the whole shebang of next gen console, next gen movie format, next gen writable mass storage device, revitalise their back catalogue of movies, and have everyone else pay licencing fees for the format.

I think it might be a very risky strategy. Early movie adopters of Blu-ray probably won't want a "games machine", and a subsidised HDDVD player with better image quality and a greater movie catalogue will be more tempting. A console-agnostic games player will be paying a lot to get a console that is so expensive because of the BR player he doesn't really want while XBox360 will get a price drop, and already has a back catalogue. All the while potential PS3 customers are being told to wait, wait, and wait some more. What are the parents going to buy for a Christmas present? Are they going to wait and buy little johnny a mega expensive console in March, or get a cheaper XBox360? They sure arn't going to get both.

So that just leaves the people who want a PS3 because it's a PS3, and those that can be marketed into wanting one. Seems like a lot of eggs in one basket to me.

Okay, whoever said that this means RSX is G80 upstream. . . we may need to consider one of those cult deprogramming type deals for that person. I mean, c'mon.

If there is no G80 in the PS3, and the delay is soley stems from Blu-Ray diodes manufacturing problems, Sony is finished in the next-gen console market race this time around.

The price point is going to be high for the PS3 no matter what, so they won't be able to compete in a price war with the XB360. If the pixel pushing power of the RSX GPU isn't substantially better the XB360, Sony has brought a knife to a gunfight.

G70 based PS3 = Sony brings a knife to a gunfight

G80 based PS3 = each PS3 a Delta Force soldier but situation Black Hawk Down

There's a good chance he's partly right - support for the different languages and for SDTVs with PAL frequencies do make a game launch in Europe more complicated, and I can imagine that many development teams have been stressed enough to get their projects done by or near the PS3's launch.

This is partly the reason why Europe is getting screwed so often - it's basically our own fault. ;)
