MGS4 realtime demonstration by Kojima

I think some of you guys missed the direct-feed video on G4. Well I seen it and it was a world of a difference. It taught me to not trust screenshots anymore. I can see that screenshots will not be the end all be all of what graphics can do. It will be the videos. See this generation comparing screenshots isn't a bad idea to compare one game to another.

But next-gen no. It's just not going to be smart. Special effects next-gen just won't show up as good in a picture as it would in motion. So to all the guys that missed the direct-feed video but has seen the shaking handicams, you missed ALOT of detail. I mean alot of it. I swear the game looks about 30% better.

I don't know, I don't really see a big difference between screenshots and motion. I think the thing is you see less of the bad stuff when it's in motion, but it's still there if you look for it. You also don't see stuff like moving shadows or get the full effect of the bloom effect, but I mean that's pretty much implied in the picture (I can see the effect of the bloom still) and would still be the same in all pictures of all games that have that effect. That said, there's nothing here that hasn't been done before, so I don't see why we can't use screenshots to compare..

Are you trying to not listen to others hear? You should know that a moving character on a next-gen system proves many times more of what the end user will play than a screenshot. Have you seen the direct feed video yet? I have and it's WAY better than the screenshot provided trust me.

According to the demo video, Snake's moustache has the same amount of polygons as one character model in MGS3.

When he moves the light source the shadow in the background doesnt move. So it seems that the environment has normal mapped light? (or whatever it is called - a static, precalculated light map)

For something that looks like a handful of polys plus a texture, that seems like overkill. Did they say anything more about it?

Not so much MGS4 news as, well, MGS3, but very very cool. Another game I need to buy for the PS2... I'm starting to hate the PS2 for the sole fact, that it's making me poor.

Disc One - Subsistence: main game (with new camera and facepaint/camouflage outfits) and Demo Theater

Disc Two - Persistence: both MSX games, Snake vs. Monkey (with new missions), Duel Mode, Metal Gear Online (includes Reiko of Rumble Roses), and Secret Theater (with exclusive new videos)

Disc Three - Existence (limited to "First Edition"): three-and-a-half hour MGS3 in-game movie disc that plays from start to finish with "re-editing, cuts of newly recorded material, and re-mastered sound all carried out under the supervision of director Hideo Kojima"

Before they mention the moustache as it has the same amount of polygons as one character model in MGS3, at the beginning of the 1up video, they say something with 60,000 vertices primitives is driven by physics simulation, but what this thing with 60,000 vertices really is is not clear as the video starts in the middle of the explanation. As it's simulated with physics, I think it's the hair of Snake that has 60,000 polygons. Anyway we need more complete version of the Konami MGS show video...

Well with the next-gen systems it's obvious now that it is not overkill. It would be overkill if the game were to be 20fps though. But that will not be a problem with MGS4.

Ok, look at it this way. High Res Direct Feed is going right? It's a movie, there's constant motion and such and it looks stunning as you say. Now, take a picture (ign.com has high res pictures of the trailer) See the ugly stuff? The bad textures and such? Now think of the kind of game MGS is. Most of the time you're back is against a wall waiting for your chance to move. There isn't any motion, you're going to notice that kind of stuff. That's all I'm saying, it's still there and a screenshot shows it. To me it just pops out. You maybe not. You're lucky, you get to enjoy it, but I'm probably going to notice that when I play the game.

You should probably refrain from playing video games at all then....

WOW! The direct feed is longer and shows more stuff. I didn't even know that there were air planes in the beginning. And did anybody notice Snake running around in the beginning. He was the one doing half of the killing. And the ending is priceless. Kojima even showed the KZ video. You gotta love that guy. Even he believes in Guerrilla.

Hmm, probably a hi-res version will be released on some magazine DVD! Another wait it seems

Isn't FAMItsu going to do so? IIRCAIND they said they were going to have a highlights DVD or something. I remember DVD of something! I know that.

Also, anyone know where I can get a copy of the diret feed trailer? I keep getting insufficient bandwidth errors? I guess because the site's being hammered.

Why can't Konami ever release a good hi-quality trailer? I mean, just make a bit torrent file of at least a 720p direct-feed trailer and spread it with BT, can't be that friggin' hard now can it?

I'm quite sure that they were joking...

I can assure it's not a joke. They repeat "hige dake de" ("in moustache only") to put emphasis on it... (from 00:12 in the 1up video)
