Formula 1 - 2013 Season

Possibly.

To be honest, I don't trust anything Clarkson et al say these days and so don't really believe that Hamilton was so much faster than the other drivers on that lap.

The show has become a caricature of a caricature and, on the odd occasion I catch an episode, I remember why I no longer bother to watch it!

They don't have any reason to lie about it. If they were making up times, Vettel would probably have been at the bottom of the board.

The show could hardly be less factual. They're also pandering for the home market who want to see Hamilton beat the rest.

Now, I'm not saying that Hamilton wasn't legitimately faster than the other drivers, but I had absolutely no doubt he would be at the top of the leaderboard before he drove the lap, regardless of what happened.

Similarly, I had no doubts that Webber would be faster than Vettel.

Don't forget that this is a show that just makes stuff up as it pleases, especially when it suits the prejudices of their presenters.

Anyway, sorry for the OT aside.

Back on topic, I'm not the biggest fan of F1 in the first place, but the noise of the cars is one of the biggest irritants to me!

In general, I don't get excited by the noise a car makes and would be very happy to drive a pretty much silent EV in the future.

You might want to look up the word "entertainment" in the dictionary because thats what the show is. TG never was about facts and always about entertaining people in a tv program that happens to have cars in it. Atleast that is how TG has been since the reboot.

If you don't care about F1 then why bother posting here in the first place? I'm sure there is a muesli topic for you.

Have you ever been to a F1 race?

Well, to be honest, it does give him a small point. I've been to Spa, right at the end of the straight just before they start braking and after about 5 minutes my ears started to hurt like lol.

If you ever want to visit a F1 race, don't go to Spa. Access is utter shit, I lived 60km from Spa but it look me over 4 hours to get there with public transport, it's rainy and cold most of the time and unless you sell an internal organ or two to pay for a grand stand seat you will spend the whole day in the mud on a slope without being able to sit anywhere close to comfortable. Plus it's almost impossible to follow to race.

No, if you are a fan you should go once to experience F1 in real life but after that you are much better off on your couch.

My problem with Top Gear in recent years is that it simply isn't very good. When they started off with the silly japes it wasn't too bad (and the Reliant Robin rocket episode was genius), but they ran out of ideas years ago and the big issue is that they simply aren't very funny these days. If they got themselves a decent producer/scriptwriter, things could be much better, but when you've got Clarkson et al writing their own lines it just isn't very good.

Sorry Mr. Forum Policeman.

Although I'm not overly interested in F1 (I'll watch races if I'm not doing anything more interesting, but couldn't give a toss about qualifying), I do like to keep track of this thread just to read the often hilarious bitching that goes on between supporters of one camp or another.

As for Muesli, lethal stuff when you're allergic to nuts as am I.

Why wouldn't Hamilton be so much faster when he's so much faster in an F1 car over 1 lap? :p

Is he? Rosberg has beaten him several times in equal car, so has Button and probably Alonso too (don't have quick statistics for Ham vs Alo)

On average he's been faster than certainly Button and Rosberg. The early Rosberg comparisons are looking considerably weaker now he's getting up to speed with the Merc.

Rosberg has been ahead 3 out of 10, when Hamilton was going through that phase. Since he got the new brakes he's been 3 poles in a row. Overall he's been 3 tenths faster on average over the 10 qualifying. Not only that but when he's been faster than Rosberg he's always been at least 3 tenths faster. That is an awful lot to have over a team-mate and I believe the gap will grow, not shrink.

Hamilton definitely had a massive lead over Button in qualifying, sometimes the margins were ridiculous. Last year it was 17-3. 6 times he was over 6 tenths faster, another 5 times he was more than 4 tenths faster. For more than half the season he was 1/2 a second faster in the same car.

2011 was basically the same story, 16-3 in quali I think (even though Button was 2nd in the championship and Hamilton was well down).

2010 was 14-5 so slightly better for Button.

Vs Alonso he was basically equal in qualifying and racing but it was his first season.

When talking of other drivers beating Hamilton Kaotik multiples their successes and divides Hamiltons so they work out to his agenda.

God help him if Kimi ever drives for the same team, but I think that is the day he claims he hates F1 and will never post about it ever again.

I didn't say Hamilton hasn't been faster more often than his rivals, point was that if he's that much faster than competition as claimed by Top Gear, it shouldn't be possible that his rivals had ever beaten him in qualifying.

If Kimi and Hamilton would ever drive in the same team people would wonder why Hamilton even bothers when such an oldie beats him silly all the time :p

edit:
oh, and 2010 was indeed 14-5, but 2011 was 13-6, not 16-3 and 2012 was 16-4, not 17-3.

Yep it was 13-6, Hamilton got DSQ in Monaco (he was faster in Q1 and Q2 though). I guess he was DSQ in one last year also while being faster.
